Setting up a USB audio device as a Bluetooth speaker using bluez-alsa under Ubuntu

Post by danboid »

Some of you may have spotted my new TV Box Internet Radio Recorder project:

https://github.com/danboid/TVBIRR

I would like to add the ability to stream audio via Bluetooth to my TV box. I'm not quite there yet but I do have bluez-alsa working under Ubuntu 22.04 based Armbian on my X96 Max+ (and X96 Air) TV box in a pure ALSA setting. I struggled to get that configured so I wrote a new bluez-alsa setup guide for Ubuntu 22.04+ users that can be followed by mere, non ALSA-developer mortals and added it to the bluez-alsa wiki:

https://github.com/Arkq/bluez-alsa/wiki ... der-Ubuntu

I have already attempted to get bluez-alsa to work alongside JACK using zita-a2j / zita-j2a but no luck yet. I think its my JACK config that needs to be adjusted.

Actually, I think I should've posted this in the HOWTOs, Tips and Tricks subforum instead.

If one of the admins could move it that'd be great thanks!

I have been successful in getting bluez-alsa working on top of JACK, which was required to get my internet radio recorder doubling up as a Bluetooth speaker/amp. I've written a short guide for anyone else who wants to set this up on top of a TVBIRR install:

https://github.com/danboid/TVBIRR/blob/ ... uetooth.md

TVBIRR now uses espeak TTS to speak the currently played track / station at the push of a button on the remote.
