I am surprised that nobody mentioned, that the original thread was 10 years old.

We are talking about IRC. It is over 30 years old, so 10 years old thread is ok.

I don't think so. Feel free to join, that channel is pretty active.

yep, very active and very open to using any tools you want (though we'll probably try to convince you to use linux and open-source stuff). :D

re freenode channels;

#lau is bigger than #linuxmusicians and gets more chat, i idle in both, but propose supporting the first for general user chat.

#lad is active for linux/libre development/programming orientated on-topic chat

#jack #lv2 and #archlinux-proaudio are active, as are #edmproduction, #zrythm, #ardour and #alsa

#opensourcemusicians is fairly active but often off-topic and occasionally a bit toxic

##audio and ##music-electronics are low to occasional medium content not enough mass for constant chat

#dataflow (Pure Data), #openav, #audacity, #surgesynth, ##radio, ##rtlsdr and #redditaudio and #hamradio are worth a mention

##electronics is interesting but with a somewhat occasionally toxic

I don't think that any irc channel today can be alive with only on-topic messages. Not enough people to keep channel alive with on-topic stuff.

And what would be definition of on-topic?
