Hello!

Post by -=JP=- »

Hello! Read this forum for couple of months, found many useful suggestions and advices, and now decided to register here. First of all, want to say THANX to creators of this forum! :D
I'm from Novosibirsk, Russia. I'm a vocalist in quite popular local metal band Rhemorha http://www.myspace.com/rhemorha. But being only vocalist became boring for me, I've decided to play the guitar and make some records just for myself.
I'm fond of guitarix application, it's the program, where I spend most of time when I sit at home near computer. Special thanx to Brummer, he added some my presets to factory settings of his programm!
Here is one example of what I've recorded under Ubuntu Studio (it's only my track, not Rhemorha's!!! )

@JP Hello, good to see more guitarix/linux fans. If you find a sweet deal on a Fender Mustang
amp, you can craft 24 presets for the main dial, one, some, or all of which you can design
for your use with guitarix or other linux fx. (100 presets on more expensive amps)
Put one on a stand, and you get a lot of fast easy control during a set.
A linux editor for the amps is here

http://piorekf.org/plug/ There is a fancy bundled editor for mac/win users called Fuse,
great for preset sharing/forum, and plenty youtube demos by now.

Festige https://launchpad.net/~falk-t-j/+archiv ... /+packages

will load a lot of the excellent freeware ampsims, to add some great highgain gear
some are here http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/ along with a nice cab-sim for impulses

Hope the Russian winter is not too difficult this year, I'm stocking up with tons of firewood.
5 feet of snow, an hour to the east

Hi JP
Image

well slowpick seems to be a 'real' linux / guitarix fan, that’s why he suggest you to use windows applications on linux, or buy some hardware, instead use native linux apps like guitarix.

But I must say I like your music at it is , excellent sound and groove.

Are you drunk? The fender Mustang is a usb guitar interface, the most linux compatible
one out there. How will you get the guitar into Guitarix, without suitable hardware???
The 'amp' just happens to be included on the cable. And be awesome :P

'Plug' is a linux clone of the mac/windoze patch editor 'Fuse', that Fender ships with the amp,
and one of the Fender Fuse coders, is also a linux user. Editing 12 Fender amps and fx with
native linux software is a good thing.

And I have often praised Guitarix2 in other locations, and used it last myself on
December 22nd.

I suggest that the future default Guitarix display have all the modules open, and with detected fx
listed, because users of commercial products, might pass by, based on the basic Guitarix Head,
wrongly assuming there is 'nothing more to see'. Dazzle them first, and let them turn things
off later, and save preferences. Perhaps an 'Open/Close All Modules' button,
in a prominent location, would be handy, so users can instantly manage on-screen real-estate.

As to my suggesting Festige to use some windows plugins, you will find that the whole
'linux only' mantra is a huge turn-off to the masses, and especially to musicians, who see it
as petulant snobbery. The trail is littered with the carcasses of those lured in to linux,
by the promises of those unwilling, or unable, to provide accurate and honest support to
the new users who need it most. We all were new at some point. I'm still new every monday,
slowpick is sadly, an apt choice for a nik.

I look forward to each new version of Guitarix. I notice that Falk and linuxdsp and zynaddsubfx
have forums at kvr, might be good for you also, and the amp-sim devs at
www.guitarampmodeleing.com forum are very friendly, another forum outpost you could use
to let the musicians out there know of the good alternatives available.

down in the hood, it's 'Pimp your ride, or get on the sidewalk'

I like the music by JP, it's well done, groovy sound, I didn't see the need to change the hardware input or the amp sim, so your suggestions here are very strange to me and didn't belong to a welcome post.

If you are going to be a curmudgeon forum cop, at least do a good job,
and also criticize happy newcomers who dare post soundcloud and myspace links
in the welcome box, instead of Original Scores and Recordings where they belong?

I use Guitarix MORE, not LESS, since purchasing a Fender Mustang amp 8)
I am sure that would be the case for many musicians. So, mathematically,
you should buy a truck load of them, and ship them to known Guitarix users,
so they will use it even more.

J-P is in a successful working band, transitioning nicely to a difficult instrument,
and may be looking to build a rock solid linux live set. The features and easy use
of the Mustang series of amps are GOOD, not EVIL, especially on stage.
Competition keeps everyone sharp. Options keep everyone creative.
Freedom keeps everyone talking. :)
