Hi everybody
I've been playing the acoustic guitar on and off (not very well).
I took up the ukulele a few years ago.
This year I bought a mandolin, a tenor guitar and an Irish tenor banjo.
Right now the main instruments I play are the guitar and tenor guitar.
I use the abc notation system and lilypond to typeset my tablatures.
My OS is slackware linux.
I like most string instruments (guitar, fiddle, harpsichord, viola da gamba ...),
can't stand the saxophone and most of the reed instruments.
The music I listen to the most: Celtic, baroque, oldtimey, bluegrass, ...
Mark

Re: hi everybody
Hi mark, welcome and happy new year. I'm a clarinetist and I recently found a saxophone that I'm going to learn to play I would love to hear if you end up recording any of your string instruments.

Hello! I like the way you work, very efficient. As a lover of saxophones, I'm glad to meet someone with a different opinion, and would like to understand why. Welcome

Why don't I like the saxophone?
To me it's unpleasant at best. And, especially the soprano,
it feels like breaking chalk on slate, styrofoam squeaks,
a plate scraped by a fork and fingernails on blackboard
I don't like the oboe either.
As much as I love JS Bach I avoid the cantatas where the oboe
is too prominent, and that's a shame because the composition,
the voices, and the rest is so great...

Re: hi everybody
I'm a string guy too, and our favorite genres overlap quite a bit.
I learned to like saxophones from jazz. Paul Desmond ... mighty nice stuff. I still don't play them though.
