Hello from Colorado!

Post by dalezjc »

Hi All,

Just made the leap to recording (or attempting to) in Linux (Mint). I've got a Focusrite 18i8 audio interface and installed Reaper and everything seems to work just fine. Looking forward to this journey.

Welcome to audio paradise! Still, if you can maintain an extra install,
perhaps a second Mint booting on an external hardrive, you can
perform updates, and test new software on one, without risking
the other.

I've found over the years, that when a system is in working order,
changes are highly over-rated.

a couple of other useful forums, the Reaper and U-he linux-version areas:

https://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.p ... 9bcc1&f=52

https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=31

I also think it lucky to get Bitwig 8Track from
Computer Music Magazine, either online from zinio $5.00 + download time
or paper-mag with cover dvd around $19 at major booksellers
This will let you bounce issues off another good daw, to see if
they are linux system, or app specific. And the Bitwig effects
and bundled instruments are pretty nice, for essentially a freebie.
Happy 2019!
sing it everybody! :D ...let it snow, let it snowww, let it snowwwww

Hi Dale, I wave in your general direction from the other side of the Rocky Mountains. Beautiful time of year, this is, with the snow covered slopes.

I'm really glad to hear that your 18i8 is working. My 2i4 had never given me any trouble either.

Hi Dale
I'm about to buy a 18i8. The manual says 'The input configuration for the jack contacts at Inputs 1 and 2 can be selected via
software from Focusrite Control.' I guess the Focusrite Control Software doesn't work with Linux.
Is it possible to change the input configuration for channels 1 and 2 to INST (for pluggin in gutars) under Linux (debian)?
