Hi community :)

Post by vitaminx »

I just signed up to this forum, let me introduce myself :)

I'm a professional Linux engineer and hobby musician based in Barcelona, Spain by choice.

I was until the late 90s into C64 and Amiga computers, where I started using trackers like OctaMED, Symphony Pro, MLine Editor, Digibooster and probably more that I just forget :P
Together with a friend we made techno music, and we even made it on a few Compilations as "Invaders Of Sound" : https://www.discogs.com/label/939160-Raven-11

In the early 2000s my Amiga computer got stolen and my parents gave me a Windows PC - I tried Cubase and Fruityloops and a few other things, but never really liked working with that OS - so I tried Linux, I chose Debian for that matter.
For a few years I dual booted Linux with Windows, as I'm also into Gaming, which you just couldn't do at this time with Linux. But I just loooooved that OS, I left no stone unturned, learned about each and every package and line of config - until I made it my profession, now I'm happily working as a Linux Engineer (99% Debian) in a very nice company :)

Also in the early 2000s I started to play guitar and sing with friends, and we eventually formed an alternative rock band. We did a couple of concerts in Berlin, and even Poland. Someone had a friend at SAE, which is a school for audio engineering. They were looking for bands to professionally record, so we joined and got recorded: https://www.discogs.com/Beats-Per-Inch- ... se/2432143
Someone uploaded one of the songs here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0ET0CQ1uaM

Having moved to Spain I was able to slowly build a home studio, incl. an electric drumset, guitars and a bass, a decent audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20), entirely based on Linux.

I use Renoise for many years now, and although it's perfect for many things, it falls short for recording, so I was really happy when Cockos announced a Linux version of Reaper, which I got right away.
So right now I'm doing test recordings with Reaper - so expect more "handmade" music from me in the future :D

I also finally successfully calibrated my sound system for my room with Room EQ Wizard: https://www.roomeqwizard.com/help/help_ ... lcome.html
This was quite difficult but holy shit, what a difference!

I would really be happy to get to know other Linux musicians, and would also be happy to help out anyone with Linux (especially Debian) issues, music related things, etc.

Myself I am trying to advance into more professional mixing and mastering, so I am happy about any advice there :)

This is my Soundcloud with some recent tracks: https://soundcloud.com/vitaminx

Hi there, and welcome!

That's quite an interesting background! I had an Amiga too, but I only used that for games.
