Yeah, what's to tell about me?
I'm a synth guy working on making electronic music with the help of GNU/Linux. That said, I don't make music "inside the box", that is, with nothing more than a computer. I don't need it for much more than recording multi-tracked audio (in sync to a MIDI time code to be sure) and merging it to a final stereo mix. Sounds, sequences, FX, mixing, MIDI routing, all that is done with dedicated hardware, so for just playing music, I don't even need a computer.
Also, I'm a GNU/Linux aficionado, otherwise I wouldn't be here, right? I have been using GNU/Linux for a good eleven years now, and I've been through my share of distros; I currently have four distros in use.
Furthermore, I should mention my love for ThinkPads. This has been typed on a X60s, my lightweight travelling laptop.
Music-wise, I'm hopelessly old-school, even though my music is electronic. I refuse to let anything made from the 90s on influence my music (unless I explicitly decide otherwise, but that rarely ever happens). I've experienced the 1980s and part of the 1970s first-hand, but I'm still kind of too young for my preferences.
Once I'm an approved user, I'll have a question or two for the community; I won't misuse this thread for that.

Re: Hello from the north of Germany!
greetings from somewhere in germany (looks like there are a lot of german users here..).
i was also intrigued by your statements about your standing on hardware and computers, since it's also one of my main interest to make music not "inside" the computer, but find a suitable place for the computer in a more "hands on"-electronic-studio or performance setting.
greetings--
