Greetings From Canada!

Post by aivez »

New user, hailing from Alberta - hello to all fellow Linux musicians.
Transitioning user. Currently running Windows 10 on most desktops.

Main workstation specs:
Be Quiet 800 series case; Asus Sabertooth 990; FX 8370 @4.6Ghz (Noctua D14 but want to upgrade to a BeQuiet DRP3 because their fans are even quieter); 32GB AMD Radeon 1866; GTX 980; Single Delta 1010LT
Plan to go from Windows 10 -> Ubuntu Mate or Linux Mint once the motherboard is replaced.

Secondary workspace is a Lenovo Miix series with Secureboot and TPM disabled, Ubuntu MATE installed. It's not really a workstation, moreso an "idea box".
_______________

Other hardware (in order of certainty to uncertainty to work):
Novation Impulse 61 with Yamaha sustain and expression pedal. Further reading indicated excellent support and full functionality under Linux.
MicroKORG XL but the mic is no good, need a better one. Works very well with Legacy Collection, maps to buttons under Windows. Likely will have full support, or no issues under Linux since the XL has been around for ~a decade now.
Maschine MKII - having difficulty finding accurate information on product support for this device. A few sources indicate that under Linux this just functions as a "host compliant controller" but most program functionality that this is marketed for is absent (like changing pad assignments/colors/driver dependent DAW software). If this doesn't work fully under Linux then the tablet might be getting Windows 10 back just for it.
_______________

Software:
Reaper, ReNoise, Audacity, and pretty much any other software to tinker around with waveforms or what have you. Not certain what to go for specifically for Linux, but those are my starting points as far as software goes. I plan on eventually getting into live mixes or possibly hall DJing once in a blue moon.

Anyhow, that's it for now!
