Hi all what have you been up to of late?
I'm still busy ironing things out of a few tracks I am working on, doing what work I get which has slowed some obviously, and waiting for this weekends torrential downpour.

I'm busy renovating. I just oiled, rubbed and polished the wooden floor of our house.
Music wise I finally got a hold of nice electric bass which I intend to use on some of my tracks. Little excerpt here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF2Ps-CdESg
Drums: Hydrogen with the GSCW2 kit, or was it the Big Mono kit?
Guitars: Yamaha SG2000 through a Line6 Pocket Pod
Bass: routed through Rakarrack
DAW: Qtractor

Testing arpeggiators. Whipping my band into shape. Cleaning the studio. Learning how to use some new gear, a Behringer BCF-2000 and a Behringer FCB-1010. Playing with performance loopers. Teaching. Reading poetry and the diaries of Josef Goebbels. Loving the warmer weather here. Practicing t'ai chi outdoors again. Walking the dog. Admiring the constellations in the wee hours. Listening to Andres Segovia, Jaco Pastorius, and songs by Provencal troubadours.
Re: Hi all what have you been up to of late?
Apart from slogging away at my day-job:
I've been mixing some new songs. With any luck I'll get to post one of these this weekend.
I watched some good films: Park Chan-Wook's "Thirst" and Tomas Alfredson's "Let the Right one in". Both vampire films - but not what you'd expect. Highly recommended.
And, as usual, I've been listening to my favourite podcasts:
StarShipSofa: http://www.starshipsofa.com/
This Week in Tech: http://twit.tv/twit
@AutoStatic: sounding good!
@Studiodave : I would be very interested to hear how you get on with the BCF2000 - I'm seriously considering buying one of these.

Well, so far so good. I've tested it with Ardour and Freewheeling, both of which have ready-to-use templates for the BCF. It's pretty funny to watch the faders move automatically, but they are noisy suckers. The unit is not especially well-built, btw. I don't mean that it's going to fall apart if I look at it wrong, it's just rather flimsy. By comparison the FCB 1010 is built like a truck.
Anyway, I recommend it if you need a decent low-cost control surface.

G, I'll modify my original opinion. I can't say that the box is flimsy, that's a bit too severe. It's lightweight, and the faders, switches, and knobs all have a good tactile response when manually operated.GarryO wrote:Thanks for the info, Dave.
Btw, according to the docs there is a way to disable the motors. Haven't tried it yet.
Best,

Gear used with these recordings is amazing! Midas digital console for studio mixing, fiber-optic digital snake, PMC Monitors, 48-channel protools rig, it couldn't be any better!
I'm live soundengineer for Kings of Oblivion, Judy and the crackheads (http://www.myspace.com/judyandthecrackheads).
Gonna start a new band together with the solo-guitarist and bass-player from the crackheads, first rehearsal is next thursday. I'm doing drums. I can't wait!
Recording demo's for other bands.
And every saturday I'm teaching the boyscouts:)
Cheers!

Taking apart, moving, cleaning and repairing this thing:
Now it time let the organ builder come to take care of the stuff that's above me.

Re: Hi all what have you been up to of late?
That isn't a day job, it's more a "whenever I have a bit of time" job... Makes it took 15 months while I tought it could get sorted on 3 months.
Re: Hi all what have you been up to of late?
been changing lots of diapers of late, going through weeks of fucked up sleep since my son's birth (6 weeks old now). Things start to settle down a little though But I barely touched any instrument during all this time ... luckily, my son is not at all colicky so I consider myself blessed
Re: Hi all what have you been up to of late?
been provocating the controll freaks of belgian social security system, with my idea to write an open source electronic music course and not finding (looking for) a regular job.
been trying to educate and shelter a homeless amphetamine and techno addict, but finally found a good place for him to squat.
been cleaning the place where I want to start my own music education, experimentation, ... center.
been donating some $ to those great FLOSS projects found around here.
now prepairing to live without internet at home, starting june 9, untill ???

Oh yeah good one, thanks for the reminder, it's mid-year-donation-round-up-timefreqrush wrote:been donating some $ to those great FLOSS projects found around here.
Ouch... Good luck freqrush.freqrush wrote:now prepairing to live without internet at home, starting june 9, untill ???
Over here it's kinda hectic, like thorgal I'm busy changing diapers, bathing, doing the laundry, cleaning up poo, trying to distract our little boy a bit when he has cramps, those kind of things. So I'm pretty much exhausted and tomorrow I have to go to work again
In between I do have some time to get behind the screen and be as productive as I can. It's my method to relax actually. The last few days I've thoroughly experimented with Hydrogen, what an amazing piece of software.
