Oddly, i'd just stumbled onto that Zappa video before posting the link. I happened to have caught a leg of that tour, so i was a little surprised that i hadn't seen it up and in that quality on youtube before. Knowing there are FZ on the forum, figured it was worth the share

As a As a side note, i went back earlier today to read some of the comments and tfor that video and the second one down* leaped straight out. 1st off, what a lucky fellow and b) i was at that same show. Some high personal weirdness, for me there.

ESSENTIAL UPGRADE! Thank you, Jorge. You might be interested: On 21 November 1984, I was the only one waiting at the stage door of The Royal Oak Theatre (near Detroit) to greet Frank when he arrived for his show. I snapped the icon photo at left. He let me in for the sound-check, and I sat alone. For about 20 minutes, Frank was the only one on stage, mostly playing variations on Zoot Allures. My own private Zappa performance."

Not easy to find. I got their only two CDs when their music was played before an Isildurs Bane concert in Germany. The German organizer of the concert also sold CDs. All that's left are traces on the fnac and amazon web sites.

On the anecdotal side, there's a German band that plays Zappa aince quite some time now. They're called Sheik Yerbouti and/or Grandsheiks.

"Cheepnis" from earlier this year with Napoleon Murphy Brock:

At 01:45, the pause before beginning the next sentence. It sounds so calculated, empty.

Here at 03:53 the same short pause is lively and booming, full of expectation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzO02t1HQWM

Grandsheiks could at least have put a regular cymbal crash in there. Instead it sounds like an administrative unionized pause. :)

If you ever hear about Chawata's musicians doing things nowadays let me know. Not easy to find out about these guys.

Another great band (not in Zappa style), who did only one album this time, is BaG with their CD "Sondain l'éléphant". Direct from Bretagne.

This will always stay as my reference to a very expressive instrumental music. Everything in there is just perfect and happens just at the right time. There's air, there's space, there's breathing. High craftsmanship. Not easy to find ! .... Not easy to do :)

The CD is on Musea. I visited once Musea in Metz, cool people.

Ozric Tentacles - Humboldt Currant (Solstice single), from their upcoming new album.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xbYNvnzGMg

The Ozrics are in very good shape. Very nice groove, psych synths wooping around, great bass groove. If it's not broken, why fix it ? The Ozrics are basically 'doing the same song' for over 30 years and it's always nice. A good example of a cottage industry. They can tour the 'world' anytime in an array of small venues and been doing that for all those years, generating enough revenue to, for instance, rebuild their house in Colorado when it burned down. That's craftsmanship, eg. musicians living from their music w/o being stars or anything like that.

Sunny Fournier lives in Cambodia and plays blues.

"Turn off the news" is a piece about, well, you know about what.

Cambodia had no lockdown, no social distancing, and hardly anyone wears a mask.

0 covid deaths in Cambodia: https://www.google.com/search?channel=f ... vid+deaths

The song, reflecting on other countries 'safety measures' :

https://www.bitchute.com/video/N1IV8cMJLPkT/

The irony is that VOA (Voice of America, wikipedia: "Voice of America (VOA) is a U.S.multimedia agency which serves as the United States government institution for non-military, external broadcasting. It is the largest U.S. international broadcaster.") terms Cambodia's as "being lucky".

Excerpts:

""Cambodia did screw up in every way," said Greg Poling, a senior research fellow for Southeast Asia and director of maritime initiative at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), in an interview with VOA Khmer. "Cambodia refused to restrict travel from China. Hun Sen largely ignored the virus and downplayed it. There is very low capacity for testing and treatment. I think the result is half simple luck … that Cambodia's neighbors were so effective. "

"In fact, Cambodia was slow to act as the virus began spreading out of China early this year. In mid-February, when cruise ships were turning out to be floating incubators of the disease, Prime Minister Hun Sen made a public show of welcoming more than 2,200 passengers aboard the MS Westerdam who had been refused entry by other countries. "

"With only 141 confirmed cases this year and zero reported deaths, Cambodia has one of the world's most enviable records for containing the virus and the disease it causes, COVID-19. But independent experts say that has more to do with good luck and long-established cultural habits than with government policies. "

"Despite Cambodia's weak health infrastructure, it was not until mid-March, when the virus started to hit hard in Europe and the United States, that Hun Sen introduced strict measures including a shutdown of schools and entertainment clubs. Since then, there have been few new cases and most of those infected have recovered, leaving only 12 patients still in hospitals, according to the health ministry. "

""I would say [that is] almost certainly an undercount," said Dr. W. Courtland Robinson, associate professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in an interview with VOA Khmer.

"That's a system that does not know how to do proper diagnosis of COVID-19 because doctors and nurses aren't seeing very much of it," he said. "They may say that it's pneumonia, and that's something else." "
