Why is the new Android section locked?

Post by i2productions »

The subject says it all. I would love to discuss android audio here. Since it's a linux kernel dirivative, I'm planning on reviewing some of the apps in the near future. Why lock this board?

It seems OK to me, so it's probably simply a permissions issue somewhere in the admin settings - I'm sure Nathan will look into it and authorize 'normal' users to access it - thanks for reporting!

i selected the 'registered users' group gave it 'standard access + polls' rights to the android forum, and 'guests' got 'read only access'.

That's how it should be, right?

Hmm it makes sense to me to lock a Android section somewhat... http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/72516.html

All though a total locked Windows and Macintosh subforum would even make more sense...

To be quite honest, this article is kind of full of bullshit.

Just because my TV runs Linux (it actually does, the firmware on the modern Philips TV's appears to be Linux-based) and this TV is not entirely open, does not make Linux any less open.

That carriers try to lock down the phones they sponsor is not anything new, and that Android allows them to is not 'closed' or unexpected.

(or course there *are* reasonable reasons to call Android 'not entirely open': their development process isn't open, and we only get to see the source of already-released versions. I'm not sure whether they accept patches (don't think so) and many android apps (including things like Maps) are non-free. The platform is still quite open compared to iOS, Windows and Symbian ;) )
