How about giving some more of the users here privilieges to remove spam?
And on another note, I don't understand how spammers think. Do they really think that posts like this one will actually earn them money? http://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php ... 976#p27976

Doesn't sound like a strange idea to me.Excds wrote:How about giving some more of the users here privilieges to remove spam?

Re: Spammers working overtime
Greetings,
The spam is reaching ridiculous levels here. I second the notion of allowing some users to delete evident spam.
Best,
dp

Sounds good to me.I second the notion of allowing some users to delete evident spam.
BTW, the 'report this post' feature is really useful. I deleted some spam comments/users recently that I missed before. If you see multiple spam messages from one person, it's sufficient to mark one - I'll usually delete the whole user including his posts.

Maybe this side could help a bit to Stop Forum Spam.
http://www.stopforumspam.com/
http://www.stopforumspam.com/
so you can back-list IP addresses and mail-addresses to avoid registration of spammers. We provide lists of spammers that persist in abusing forums and blogs with their scams, ripoffs, exploits and other annoyances*. We provide these lists so that you don't have to endure the never ending job of having to moderate, filter and delete their rubbish.

Re: Spammers working overtime
Sounds good, though I suspect they're using botnets and generated emails. Anyway if anyone can do anything to improve the situation that's great.brummer wrote:Maybe this side could help a bit to Stop Forum Spam.

Re: Spammers working overtime
This needs a solution.
What image do new potential users get when accessing this page nowadays? Or imagine someone considerating to switch from windows audio to Linux audio solutions and seeing a forum flooded like this.
Since the Admins don't have the time to do it, they should give temporarily access to the server to a "trusted user" who agrees in making the following:
1st) The software needs an update. It's from 2007!!!!! There is a conversion tool to convert to phpBB3: http://www.phpbb.com/support/documents. ... a2#convert
2nd) we need some anti-spam mod(s)!!! there are several available: http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/modif ... ti-spam-9/
