OK. Switched the default to a newly-installed 'prosilver' theme.

I don't like it either.

We have a captcha (up until a couple of minutes ago). Evidently that doesn't provide much protection anymore these days. Word on the streets is that a simple-but-not-entirely-trivial Q&A-question works better. I installed that - it now asks you to name a linux distribution when signing up, and I'm accepting a list of most that I could come up with as valid answers. For this I had to upgrade the theme (see above, hence the boring blue).

Let's see if this helps.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure some percentage of spam is actually typed in by actual people. I double if we can ever really kill it. But let's see if we can get it down to a better level again.

Thanks for the update, raboof. I like LM a lot, I don't want to see it drowned in a flood of spam. And I do appreciate the efforts being made to reduce it, believe me. :)

Best,

An announcement in the LM home page would be nice to quiet down the surprises for anyone including me. What I mean by "quiet down the surprises" is like saying, "hey, is this really LinuxMusicians" or "What's this? A new theme for LinuxMusicians? Oh, wait-- this is a default theme for phpBB," or something like that.

I couldn't gain access to LinuxMusicians.com forum the whole day due to someone at FairPoint Communication central office accidentally pulling the plug for my mom's Internet connection in Altha. It's been a long stressful day and it was raining hard this morning.

(OT: I'm late for cooking something to eat. Heh. :) )

Music Interest: New Age w/ a mix of modern smooth jazz, light techno/trance & downtempo -- something Epcot Future World/Tomorrowland-flavored.

We are exploring options to take care of spam issues. Unfortunately I'm very limited on time right now, so we look at implementing a solid solution most likely in September. In the meantime please feel free to discuss options and make suggestions.

The changes I made seem to have had some effect. khz has been actively removing spam users, and AutoStatic has been added to the moderation team (welcome!). Not sure what more we can do at this point.

I usually drop in once a day. Zero spam is probably a dream, but you guys have brought what was becoming a horrible mess back under control

Congratulations, and keep up the good work :D
