Hi,
I think an important goal of our wiki is support or a 'starting manual' for newbies. Maybe we can make a real good one with pictures etc.
We should explore which resources we should use (e.g. linuxmao, blog writings, dave philips writings?)...
Maybe we can brainstorm in this topic first how a newbie manual should look like and which content it should contain.
edit:
This is the newbie page of linuxmao, as far as I understand:
http://linuxmao.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=noob
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... r=avbbf-us
( The corner of the beginners page 1/3 )
http://linuxmao.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index ... Noob_HowTo
I think we need to tell something (short) about system configuration (kernel, etc.).
Jack and qjackctl deserves a lot of attention.
linuxmao about jack:
http://linuxmao.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=Jack
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... r=avbbf-us
The MAO linuxienne > The corner of the beginners page 2/3
The waiter Jack
In our howto section there is a article about it from ubustu.com and 64studio.com.
Also linuxmao has a nice one:
http://linuxmao.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index ... e=Qjackctl
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... r=avbbf-us
Also audacity, ardour, hydrogen, rosegarden etc.do deserve some attention for newbies I think.
... We can use a lot of the stuff which are set up by linuxmao.org!!
Let's contact them as soon as possible!!!

We can cross-reference, but let's not copy. We can gather the information available from the following:
http://en.opensuse.org/JackLab
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio
http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pro_Audio
There are more such links, so the most effective method is to provide the fundamentals. Pictures are good, but I don't know how versatile DokuWiki is for that kinda thing since I've never written on it before.
The "Newbie" page should provide links to other areas in the Wiki, it should not detail too many things. Summarisation is best, but it should also provide a little background on audio engineering and music production on GNU/Linux. I'll start writing as soon as I get some time.

I wrote the newbie page for our wiki.
I have tried to give enough but not to many information for people who want to try linux for audio usage. It tries to answer some very often heard questions of other OS users to (hardware, VST, commercial).
Maybe it is good to discuss here when you want to edit something in the newbie page. Or give your opinion about.
Maybe a Linuxmusician from a English speaking part of the world can edit my story concerning the faults I've made when using the English language... Thanks in advance
