@bhilmers - totally agree.

Try going off topic on the Arch Linux forums  It can seem heavy handed but, as bhilmers alluded to, all the historical information you need is there and it's concise. If I wanted to talk about music on Linux then I'd not try and post on the Arch forums and look for an appropriate forum

I just want to add...

The reason why my posts aren't deleted is because I say out loud the things about all of you that the moderators silently think.

They are evil people.

I wish more people enjoyed a bit of sarcasm. If in doubt, you can always slap a smiley on it people.

I also think you should be banned. For life. From the internet.

That might be a good thing for me, as long as I had a way to sneaker-net new releases of Dragonfly Reverb to somebody who could publish them to the internet.

People too often take for granted all the work that moderators do. I think that raboof is long overdue for a bit of recognition. In fact, the last time he was recognized happened several years ago when he was in a police lineup. It was a case of mistaken identity. He was convicted of committing lascivious public acts with naked banjos. Later DNA tests proved him innocent. But he still is banned from Nashville's city limits.

This is a true story. Only the names, places, dates, and actual facts have been changed to protect those involved.

Clearly a conspiracy to deflect suspicions about 5G brain control.

I do think the moderators here should exercise more restraint when it comes to deleting posts, and instead persue alternate methods of moderation. For example, instead of deleting a post, the moderators should offer the poster the option to rewrite his post in pig latin.

Do you want us to stop talking about Arch Linux or any other distribution and only about music programs and music theory because there is an extra forum/platform for the other areas?
USB/Network/File System/... Questions? >> extra forum? Hmmm. That will be complicated, but:
You are the forum, then don't write anything more about Arch, $foobar here. So you change something in a small way.

By the way, many music programs and music distributions have their own forum, so would it be forbidden to talk about these music programs/distributions here?
There's Facebook, Twitter, ... ...as an alternative to this forum - Linux Audio Social and Community Guide >> https://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/places1 - feel free in your choice.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. We talk about "USB/Network/File System/... Questions?" etc., because it is directly relevant to this forum, i.e. making music on Linux. It's simple, use the appropriate forum for the topic.

No, see above... this is a forum for making music on Linux. So this obviously includes all the software involved in making music on Linux. I don't get your point.

That's something to consider. It's hard for the single-developer apps, such as BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files) to compete with the more established, and usually commercial brands that can afford to setup their own hosting services etc. The author of BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files) doesn't make any money off of this open-source software. (He's a great humanitarian. Or rather, he would be if he didn't hate people). So without an advertising budget, it's difficult to promote software such as BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files). There's only the avenue of non-profit forums to use as promotion for apps like BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files). And when the "big boys" are allowed to utilize the same outlets, even this "advantage" plays against the likes of BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files). So the fair thing to do may be to limit discussion to the small-ticket, open-source items like BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files).

In conclusion, I think we should ban discussion of all software except BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files). After this website becomes a forum dedicated to BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files), then we'll have established a level playing field.

Until then, we're stuck with the oppressive dominence of commercial vendors and their "hard sell" tactics. And aren't we all just a little sick of being bombarded with the ubiquitous self-promotion of these people? I know that the author of BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/files) is.

Those were just meta thoughts when I read the contributions here, not positions.
The "Report Button" is very helpful. Apart from that, it might be a bit freer here on LM than anywhere else on the internet, that also has advantages and disadvantages.

All opinion is my own (obviously) and that's all it is. I'd rather not see topics like "Covid 19" in my RSS feed but hey, if that's what's allowed by the moderators and it's what the board users want, then that's fine :) I'm all in for democracy.
