Re: Subgroup: Virtual Music Projects
It's a good idea. How are you thinking of implementing it? Would it be a subgroup under "Original Scores & Recordings" where members could post a basic track or stems and then call for collaborators?
Probably the biggest challenge would be herding cats. I think everyone who is here regularly has a lot of projects falling behind already.

Re: Subgroup: Virtual Music Projects
I'm not into producing whole tracks for the now, more into sound design like getting to know how things are done but If you are interested I can contribute with:
- synth patches (leads, bass, pads, FX) sometime bundled with FX in a Carla rack.
- samples for Hydrogen or LinuxSampler and sampled loops to be used with Shuriken

Voted yes, but in reality:
a) I don't have enough skills to be valuable resource
b) I don't have enough time to do something valuable for community

Sounds nice, you have right attitude. I'm in.42low wrote:But i think that were we don't have time to do a full project on our own, we can do more if we get help by others doing all some parts. I think that in the end we can come further then we do now.
And it doesn't have to become a album-factory. Projects can take time which is needed.

Re: Subgroup: Virtual Music Projects
I would love to work on some kind of electro-symphonic post modern progressive rock opera (use your imagination to interpret what that means ). I could contribute orchestral and electronica elements, I'd be interested in working with anybody that could contribute anything else.
Re: Subgroup: Virtual Music Projects
Nice! I've been thinking about something along these lines too. I have an account over at Kompoz, but I haven't done anything with it. The site has functions where musicians can have private teams (not just general public), and it's easy to use for Linux users (I've seen some where it's basically impossible to work with). The site is built on a different monetizing model, and it's fairly flexible as far as copyright preferences. I've seen collabs ranging from copyrighted to creative commons...
I like what LMMS studio is doing over at Bandcamp, too... with their annual album release showcasing LMMS artists (LMMS artists on Bandcamp).

Re: Subgroup: Virtual Music Projects
If you're looking for for a collaboration tool look no further than riot.im
https://about.riot.im
Free, opensource online chat and collab.
Works in browser, desktop app, mobile apps.
Heck, there are even cli clients
Guest can join, no direct need to setup an account.
Voice and video chat
Screen share
File uploads
You can setup a 'room" for your project and invite others. You have the option to set a room to private if you want.
It's very stable and under active development.
Bonus, there are bridges to irc (freenode for example) so I use it for irc chat too.
Bonus bonus, bots can be added to the room (github, gifs, Google etc)
And come one, we are Linux musicians, we are almost obligated to use an opensource tool

not that much interested at the moment, but anyway voted Yes because i would love to have such opportunity in the future.
Re: Subgroup: Virtual Music Projects
riot.im looks like the right idea, a complete P2P communication & collaboration system. I won't get my hopes up though. It's built on top of some new framework for such things called Matrix (seriously ) and it's all built on Javascript etc, convenient but not so great. I'll probably just wait a few years until a more polished system comes along.

Re: Subgroup: Virtual Music Projects
Seems like the people you already know are right here on this forum, which incidentally is software designed for collaboration . I'm with you on this one, I think a simple section on linuxmusicians that is specifically for working together on music would suffice. From there, people can choose further means of communication and file sharing.42low wrote:Were i'm asking for is to get the contacts. With people you already know.
