I am running a fully-updated Arch Linux, and have found that its current Audacity requires libavformat.so.52 if it is to use FFMPEG/LibAV libraries. But I have found only libavformat.so.53 available from both repos and AUR. Anyone know what to do?

I didn't understand exactly, but if you had the old version installed and didn't clean the pacman cache you can reinstall it.

So far as I have been able to tell, libavformat.so.52 does not exist from current Arch repos and AUR. .53 is the only version which appears available. Any ideas?

I don't understand. Audacity needs this library? here in my Arch system I never had a problem with Audacity. Audacity was actualized today in the repro, see if it was solved.

Re: Audacity and FFMPEG/LibAV under Arch Linux
it was indeed. FFMPEG is needed for WMA export, and the most recent update fixed it.
