Hi everyone,
I'm facing some ugly problems regarding synchronization of apps using MIDI (mainly midi beat clock), and would be grateful for any help or hints.
My previous setup on windows was:
- samplitude (recording DAW) - clock master
- Rebirth 338 (as drum sequencer) - clock slave 1
- hardware synthesizer keyboard - clock slave 2
---
I've tried a similar setup with:
- Ardour
- Rebirth 338 (using wine. Sorry, can't replace rebirth at the moment)
- same hardware synthesizer keyboard
Here are the problems I ran into:
1) Ardour can't output MIDI beat clock (only MTC/MMC)
2) Couldn't get any app to act as jack-transport-slave and midi-clock-master. This should be trivial, right?
3) wine apps don't seem to get sysex messages through ALSA ports
4) wine & jack = crash
The problems with wine are something different, but without the DAW being the midi clock master, how do you synchronize e.g. the arpeggiator tempo of an external synthesizer?
MIDI synchronization?

Re: MIDI synchronization?
try using seq24 for the midi beat clock, and synchronize seq24 with jack transport
Re: MIDI synchronization?
This is the method I ended up with, and it works well. Only caveat was, for Hydrogen's tempo to remain in lock-step with the MIDI clock, I had to start/stop the transport using SEQ24's start/stop controls, not JACK's or Ardour's, etc... Otherwise Hydrogen's pattern would not play in sync with the other apps.freqrush wrote:try using seq24 for the midi beat clock, and synchronize seq24 with jack transport

Re: MIDI synchronization?
We need a software equivalent of my syncman pro. Takes mtc, midiclock, smpte, and outputs all these too. If any dev out there cares to take on the challenge, I'm sure there will be lots of community support.
