MuseScore and Rosegarden Problem

Post by progmadmartin »

I have a problem I am hoping someone can help me with. I use Musescore and Rosegarden. However, when use Musescore and then go to use Rosegarden, Musescore becomes unresponsive and I can no longer hear any sound from it. The only way to solve this problem I have found is to reboot my system. If I run Musescore from a terminal, quit, then run Rosegarden, quit that and try and run Musescore again I get the following message.

martin@martin-desktop:~$ mscore
PulseAudio found, but no need to suspend. Starting mscore.real...

I can see that the two lines which start Expression are the key to the problem but I don't know what they mean. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

¿Have you tried running mscore with jack? Rosegarden needs jack and mscore can be made jack-aware in the preferences, I/O tab (use jack audio server).

I suggest you get jack up and running first, trhough qjackctl (Jack Control), then "jackify" mscore so you can (hopefully) run both programs at the same time.

Cheers! Pablo

Managed to get Musescore running with Jack but the playback in Musescore was very distorted. Once muse score was run without Jack the sound returned to normal.

Think I may have solved the problem. I changed the setting under Settings-Preferences-I/O for Portaudio device. It was set at default but I changed it so it implicitly picked up my sound card and now the Musescore/Rosegarden problem seems to have gone away.
