What about Anklang? The new DAW of the town

Post by digitsun »

In the continuous quest for the midi DAW in GNU/linux I found a new application: Anklang. With ALSA and JACK support but with web technologies for made it (javascript and electron).

I will try it and look what happens, maybe is the lost piece that lack to my Ardour workflow. The only thing that I don't understand is the causes for implement Anklang with electron (?), I think that it doesn't have the best audio performance, but the developers will know what they are doing.

There are two binaries for try Anklang: a .deb package and an appimage. So, give it a chance.

Nothing since November. https://github.com/tim-janik/anklang

If you're looking for a good MIDI editor to go with Ardour you could try, MidiEditor - https://www.midieditor.org/ :) or if you want something a little more advanced Qtractor is great.

It's a pity, but it's the true, the software development is slow.

But I've had a bad experience when I tried run the application in my pc :( because I can't install it and the appimage is make it for old version of Ubuntu and don't runs. Another user report this issue and the principal developer will fix it for the next release. So, stay tuned to the news.

I see what MidiEditor has slow development too, and an user report that dependencies are old too. Again, it's a pity because MidiEditor promises be a simple and funcionality midi editor (especially, its creator implements JACK support).

Yes I'd like to see it being more actively developed. There is a fork that has additional functionality and has been more recently updated. It includes support for VSTs by the look of the commit history - https://github.com/Estwald/midieditor
