MacBook Pro Linux Mint sound issues

Post by richiewinn »

I am desperately trying to move my music production platform to Linux (from Logic Pro X on an iMac). I encounter the same problem with DAWs running with Linux Mint - no sound output. I've tried with Ardour and Qtractor with the same result. Input from the MacBook's microphone is registering and when I record the audio file is created on a track. When playback is selected the VU meters trigger in time with the recording but no sound. I have spent hours trying to track down this issue with tweaks to JACK, pavucontrol and ALSA mixer together with numerous attempts at entering commands in the terminal. Is it really this difficult to get sound from a MacBook Pro (11.3 2014 model) running Linux Mint (20)? Happy for any help at all. Richie

Hi,

I am running ubuntu in a MacBook Pro with no audio issues. The following command are just for information: They do not change anything in your computer. I will show the output. What is it for you?

Code: Select all

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [PCH            ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
                      HDA Intel PCH at 0xa0900000 irq 51

$ aplay -l && arecord -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: CS4206 Analog [CS4206 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: CS4206 Digital [CS4206 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: CS4206 Analog [CS4206 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: CS4206 Digital [CS4206 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Also, if I run "speaker-test" when jack is not running I hear pink noise, as expected.
