Metronome in Qtractor

Post by Fatima »

Thanks to the wonderful people here I have been able to set-up a Workstation in one of my laptops, using Qtractor and some samplers (drumkv1, samplv1, drops and ninjas2)
Now the next step to make it usable is to setup a metronome for Qtractor. Any hint about what sample to use and how to setup will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Fatima

Hi again and sorry for being such a nuisance

I have setup the metronome in options as shown in the pic:

Then I set one channel for recording, hit record, then hit play, and recording starts but... No metronome.
I got this feeling that something is missing but not sure what.
Any hint will be greatly appreciated.

Can't see any picture in your post.
Are you sure you activated the metronome in Qtractor?

Hey @TAERSH thank you
I had activated it, but as it does not hold, when I tried again I forgot to re-activate it :-(

Now I can hear the metronome, but funny, it only sounds on the first 3 beats of each bar.
Does this happen on purpose, or am I doing anything else wrong?

About the picture, well, I used the picture button up here next to the * sign and it put a [ img ] [ / img ] pair of tags then I included a link to a pic in Google Drive, which I made visible to "anyone with the link". Should work I guess but maybe I am missing something.
In any case thanks in advance.

Ah sorry checked it again and it sounds in the *last* 3 beats of each bar.
Not sure why anyway.

Must be some settings wrong.
The first beat usually is somehow accented.
Perhaps the audio file isn't there?
What is the result if you set both options to the same audio file?

For pictures/screenshots you could easily use the attachment feature of the forum.
But maybe you'll need some more posts to be able to attach files?

Thank you all @rncbc @TAERSH and @oldcastle now I got it right!
I was not understanding how the metronome settings work, now I put the same sound for both bar and beat, played a bit with the gain and works perfectly.

By the way @rncbc it would be a great idea to include such a sample previously configured, I am already a big fan of Qtractor but this metronome thing is not completely intuitive for beginners.

Make sure you'll have a real time kernel.
Otherwise (from my experience) the audio metronome could get out of sync.
For some years I used Hydrogen Drum Sequencer to use it for MIDI metronome.

Off topic:
Also you should try some synthesizers in addition to the samplers used.
E.g. ZynAddSubFx (or its fork Yoshimi) has lots of great sounds.
