Syncing Jack MIDI clock with external sequencer

Post by paul »

Is it possible to sync the (JACK) MIDI clock of the computer with the one of an external sequencer?
How does one do it?
Or does this happen automatically if one connects the right MIDI ports?

As far as I understand jackd does not send MIDI clock. The host / DAW reliably sends/receives the MIDI clock/messages, not jackd.
You need to define one of them (software/hardware sequencer) as master and the other as slave and connect them via qjackctl or the host / DAW virtually. Once this is done they will synchronize.
(I had also asked two questions regarding external MIDI, maybe there is useful information in the answers.

Okay, I've tried, and it works like a charm (of course the sync breaks down after xruns, but that's unavoidable).
Thank you!
