Help needed with trying to cover something
I am trying to find out what Chris payne is doing at 1.37:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmF_jeokUX8
I am looking at it with sonic visualizer, for days now but I don't get it.
Every time I think I get it, I put notes in LMMS but I am not even getting close.
Is it maybe possible to get an 1,2,3,4 grid in sonic visualizer, like I have in the piano roll in LMMS ?
Vertical lines ?
I also have been slowing it down, but probably because I don't have perfect pitch that does not help much either.
Any thought on how I can do this ?
I did find out sonic visualizer even tells me the notes, but the pattern, I can't get right in LMMS.
It sounds so simple, I feel stupid
I hear something like up down up down up down ?

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
Too stubborn to give up.
Just found something that might help.
Layer, add Time Ruler, which gives 4 vertical lines per second.
Now I only need to find out what 1 second is on the piano roll in LMMS at 105 bpm.
One problem I encounter, its hard to see what are notes and what are just blue spots, but not notes.
It confuses the heck out of me , and the visual part has some lag to the sound in sonic visualizer, which does not help either.

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
This might be as close as I can get it, but not giving up yet.
I wish I knew at what bpm Chris plays this.
I am a bit too slow I think, maybe am missing notes still.
It is an repeat of 8 notes though, that was what I counted, when slowing it down allot.

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
I think he is doing an arpeggio with his right hand. The first chord being Am, playing a pattern of E C A C A C E C. With the left hand he is playing a 1 2 3 rhythm with the 1 and 3rd being the same chords. Chord 1 being Am inverted (E A C) and chord 2 being E. That's my quick guess and I am not offering refunds

The normal part, Visage - Fade to Grey is what I already have. I would love this improvisation in it too though.tavasti wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 6:50 am I am not so smart in music, but trying to be smarted with google, does these help?

Chris at least once did it life:

For those who missed the other topic, Chris Payne started, the track, Fade to grey.
He explains it here, too bad his hands are in the way.
He seems to be using at least one thumb.

I am gonna give this a try. This could explain why I hear two things.Largos wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 11:54 am I think he is doing an arpeggio with his right hand. At A, is were I mark the minor scale in LMMS.
Its frustrating to have a good enough relative pitch to hear your doing it wrong, but not good enough to hear what actual is happening.
For inspiration been thinking about still Dre and spanisch romance.
Most here wont listen much to Hip Hop I guess, so still Dre might need some explaining.
Its a very fast arpeggio of 3 or 4 notes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HcY-PG73_w He starts With still Dre.
For those that think they don´t know Spanish romance:

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
IMHO, it's not far from Bach: Prelude in C minor, BWV 847 (The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I., No. 2). I think you should look at the score, it may help.
Even if you can't sing well, sing. Sing to yourself. Sing in the privacy of your home. But sing.

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
Watching a vid about triplets, and might ask on LMMS forum about it.
Or does somebody here know the answer. I wonder if setting the grid to something 3 might help placing triplets ?
This could also connect to the reply of Largos.
( With the left hand he is playing a 1 2 3 rhythm )
This mix I think I hear of 1234 and 1 2 3 together is what me made me wonder about triplets some time ago already.
But at the time, could not exactly remember exactly what triplets are.
This vid was a good refresher. 3 notes in a 2 count for example.

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
In LMMS piano roll, Q selects grid, set it to 1/3, 1/6, 1/12 or 1/24. In note, you can put desired note len or 'last note' which makes your new note to be len of note you last time adjusted.

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
For others struggling with triplets, this tutorial helped me.

Might also give 6/8 a try.
Did I get it right ?

Re: Help needed with trying to cover something
To answer my own question yes they are triplets. (although those bottom 4 notes should be ignored.)
This is a perfect example of one of my issues. Seeing sheet music, tapping along with a vid explaining triplets, thinking I got it, then in LMMS on the piano role, I enter a state of total confusion.
I am probably overthinking it.
I have no idea if I will get this part done, but I am learning again allot and am having fun between the frustration.
6/8 dance music anybody ?
Here I was thinking all edm was 4/4. But we can have boom clap, boom clap at 6/8 too, which we can't at 4/3 (a waltz)
Reminds me of what somebody said who helped me, when I just started making noise. He said welcome to your never ending journey of learning music.
