Today I figured out how to start and configure JACK using Qjackctl, and then when I use Reaper for Linux I set the audio device to JACK (which, in Qjackctl I choose ALSA as the audio device) and wow it fricken works! I loaded up Pianotek on a track in Reaper and it plays beautifully, no latency (Steinway B cinematic patch sounds amazing, like a real piano, amazing resonance, perfect reverb, so beautiful).
Next step is to try a Windows VST in Reaper for Linux using Carla, and of course JACK, and see how low of a latency I can get, if that is doable.
Anyhow just had to share my smile today, learning a little each day about using Linux for composing even though ultimately my main composing would be in Windows 10 because of expensive sample libraries I have there from SpitFireAudio.com etc.
JACK + Reaper (for Linux) is working woohoo!
