Tip: poor man's fader

Post by English Guy »

(Apologies if you know this, it is new to me)

If you have a mouse pad with a scroll bar and use Ardour or Mixbus; if you click on the fader knob on the screen, the scrollbar becomes the fader. I did not know this and am finding it very useful for recording automation. It may work in other DAWs.

Know this? The same goes for the slides and (round) knobs in plugins.
Not till recently, and I have been doing this a long time. I just love the way it feels like a fader so you can massage a track in a mix. Mouse drags just weren't cutting it for me :D (and I do know it works for midi velocity too :P )

I usually use the mouse-wheel to move knobs and sliders, which feel natural as well.
But you are right, mostly the mouse-pad is a not so used unit, as moving the mouse pointer with it is terrible, so it's a good hint to use the scroll-bar for moving knobs and sliders.
On the road again.
