Video player as MIDI slave?

Is there a way to start a video (fullscreen) on a PC from a DAW or a drum computer via MIDI?

I don't know of any direct way to do that. What comes to mind is that there are many ways to control VLC remotely. If you're that kind of person, it shouldn't be too hard to cobble together a script to translate from MIDI to VLC API.

Basic test.

PC "A" with Qtractor running, sending MIDI clock and Song Pointer, Qtractor connected to MIDI interface
A's MIDI interface's out connected to B's MIDI interface's in
PC "B" with Qtractor running, receiving MIDI clock and Song Pointer, Qtractor connected to MIDI interface

-> Qtractor in PC "B" acts as bridge between MIDI clock and Song Pointer to jack transport

xjadeo /path/to/video/file.mov

-> xjadeo displays the first still picture of the video

Start/stop/rewind Qtractor on PC "A"

-> xjadeo plays the video and honors the song position
