App for playing live shows

Post by singforme »

Hi there,
I'd like to play live synths and soundfonts. Is there any way to do this easily? Like mainstage on macos?
I don't need tempo maps or anything fancy, just a solid host that lets me select instruments easily. Needles to say stability is key. It's anyone doing this?
Thanks, Ben

I use my own software program "Backup Band" (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband) for gigs. Although it contains a very basic rompler, it's more of a auto-arranger/accompaniment program like "Band in a Box". It's extremely stable.

I built my own using a Raspberry Pi and Fluidsynth. Lets me load up multiple independent soundfonts and create a bank of just the instruments I want. Even has a basic display and instrument switcher. Here's a video I made of it to demo the sounds. My latest iteration is running Fluidsynth on a Pi Zero W along with a node.js/express app to change instruments. Runs 6+ hours on a lithium battery!

You might also give this a try: https://github.com/progwolff/performer
I wrote this primarily for myself and have only little feedback from others. Some seem to have problems compiling it on older distros, but once running it should be stable (and it will also recover crashed plugins).

viewtopic.php?f=50&t=16586 seems to be similar.

Bitwig Studio might be worth looking into (the clip launcher/scenes feature would be useful for live performances).

You could try giada, not sure if it suits your needs but it's aimed at live use I think.
