'modular' synth and autmation

Post by froe »

Hi!

Not entirely sure where to put this question, so I'll try here.

I have used lmms for a while, not so much for making music, but more towards 'sound landscapes'.
In other words, I heavily make use of automation to control different parameters of the 3osc synth in lmms, and other filter and volume parameters that can be controlled by automation.

I then started to look at zynaddsubfx - WOW! -, but sadly there's no way to control it's parameters with automation (or am I wrong?)

I am looking for something like zynaddsubfx, that can be automated, a large synth, and some way to automate it.
Doesn't have to be lmms, any ideas are welcome!

you can use the midi learn on zyn to map a control to a midi CC, then you could use ardour's midi CC tracks to generate automation. Non-timeline may also provide similar midi automation drawing/playback.

In Qtractor at least some of the parms are automatable.

Thank you for your answers, I will have a look at Qtractor.

If anyone has any other interesting directions directions to point me in, like more modular systems on linux (and I know that Pure Data is the way to go one day, but now I really want to create more than learn)

Here's a sample of what I am working on in Lmms: https://soundcloud.com/fr_o/test2
