MuseScore to Ardour, Yoshimi gets wrong instruments

Post by BrnVrn »

I tried to write an explicit subject, sorry if it is too vague.
I have a score in MuseScore 2 with piano, Bass and DrumSet.
I use Jack (everything is check but Time Master, which is Ardour).

In Ardour (using Jack) I use Yoshimi (I am open to better suggestions)

Yoshimi keeps geting the wrong instrument in Channel 10. I got "5. Arpeggios" during playback I can change it to "25. Drums" but when I restart, it (?) sets the channel back to Arpeggios ....

I like seeing the score when I record live instruments.

In Yoshim->Settings->MIDI disable Bank Root Change.
Ardour is sending a two byte bank change which then resets this to the first bank in the first root path, which just happens to be Arpeggios.

If that's still a problem you may have to disable bank change as well.
The Yoshimi guy {apparently now an 'elderly'}

Hi,
Thanks, I disabled all changes and it worked.

I was hoping for a better MuseScore - Ardour Synth link.

It is not clear to me if it is MIDI weakness or if a "better" midi instrument plugin could provide a more seamless experience???

Because even after the Yoshim instrument, I send each output to a bus, to separate the Drum, bass, piano ... and the channel numbering is a try and guess exercise Midi#2 to bus Piano left, Midi#3 to bud piano right ...
I wonder if I am doing things right or if there is a better method ???
It looks like going through MIDI trashes a lot of info
