No MIDI output with Qtractor
Hi,
In "Connections" I've connected Qtractor and my soundcard, and in "Track properties" I've chosen a plugin synth and a soundfont, and then this synth as instrument, but still there's no MIDI sound. Any explanation? The audio part is playing ok.

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
Do you have some MIDI clips on that track or dou you want to play the instrument with your keyboard?
Do you use fluidsynth or linuxsampler?
- Press the Monitor button on the track (e.g. in the mixer window)
- Set the track's midi channel number in linuxsampler or use the correct slot in CALF fluidsynth
- Right click in the plugin box in the track's strip in the mixer, choose Audio and connect the correct Output
- Make sure that your MIDI keyboard is connected to Qtractor

Where is that slot? Strange, when I click on the Fluidsynth DSSI button in the mixer strip, I get the soundfont dialog window, whereas if I choose e.g. amsynth and click on its button I get amsynth's DSSI interface window.bluebell wrote:- Set the track's midi channel number in linuxsampler or use the correct slot in CALF fluidsynth

Qtractor Master/Out1 and Master/Out2 were already connected to System playback 1 and 2. Now I've also connected it to PulseAudio Jack Source, but still no sound.
Done that, but for the moment I use imported MIDI tracks.bluebell wrote:- Make sure that your MIDI keyboard is connected to Qtractor

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
did you "activate" the plugins?
check the small LED on the left to each plugin entry on the list, either from the track properties dialog or mixer's strip: it must be lit green.
hth.
cheers

Yes, that one is activated. I guess it's the same as bluebell called the Monitor button.
Cheers

no. probably not. the "monitor" button is one thing; the "activate" status LED is another. check the picture below: monitor is off; calf fluidsynth plugin is activated on (green).Mister Mint wrote:Yes, that one is activated. I guess it's the same as bluebell called the Monitor button.

Oh, that one. Thanks, I didn't see the spot. Now I've turned it on, but there's still no sound.
I've checked all the other things too, except that I still don't know what's mean by "the correct slot in CALF fluidsynth".

Now there's no audio sound neither.. from any program. Pulseaudio is running, and everything looks okay. Strange...

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
you still have to connect qtractor outputs eg. Master/out_N's -> system:playback_N's ...Mister Mint wrote:Now there's no audio sound neither.. strange.

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
If the track uses MIDI channel 10 then you have to setup slot 10, here "TR-808".Mister Mint wrote:Oh, that one. Thanks, I didn't see the spot. Now I've turned it on, but there's still no sound.

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
Okay. For some reason I can't make this window appear. When I click at Fluidsynth in the mixer, it's just the soundfont dialog box I get:
However, when I right-click the track > Instrument, I can chose Fluidsynth and the bank and instrument for the channel, which I guess that is the same.

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
OK, then you use fluidsynth-dssi. That one looks different. As you saw you have to load a soundfont and choose an instrument. It has a "send test note" button as well.
I noticed that sometimes I have to choose the desired instrument, choose another and then choose the desired instrument again to make it work.
If you select an instrument and klick on the "send test not" button, do you hear any sound?

Re: No MIDI output with Qtractor
The problem with this DSSI "dialog" box is that I can only mark an instrument (so it gets green), not really "choose" it. Nothing happens when I click or dobbelt-click on it, and no sound from the "Send test note" button neither, - even before almost all sound disappeared.
Right now it's only an MP3 tagger program called Kid3 that can produce sound (it has a player included). All other players, DAWs, etc, are silent. I've tried this before, and last time the sound suddenly went back after some days, out of the blue. Very strange and frustrating
