lmms does not load vsts with vestige.
Hello all,
I used to be able to use vestige in lmms to load and play all of my vsts, but lately
it will not load any of them.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this?
Will appreciate any help.
Thank you.

Re: lmms does not load vsts with vestige.
Sounds like the infrastructure of your installation changed. If your main linux
libraries/kernel changed, but the versions of lmms and vestige have not,
you may have to choose re-installing the system.
If you have detailed knowledge of more limited system changes,
your package manager commands likely have options to replace latest versions
with earlier ones. This happens to me a few times every year.
For example, on one of my computers, qjackctl, audacity, and ffmpeg currently can't be
updated, without causing undesired side effects. Found out 'the hard way', as usual.
Synaptic let's you opt to keep downloaded files in the /var/cache/apt/archives folder,
so I move them to an external drive, in case they are needed in the future.
But I know I can always create a working system from 2012, 2013 etc
should the need arise.
Cheers

Dear glowrak guy,
Thank you for the insight. This could be the case, however I really do not wish to re-install.
If I must, I will. Good idea to save the older packages as you do.
Festige works fine, but is not what lmms uses. Will find workarounds until I am ready
to do a re-install.
Thanks again.

Re: lmms does not load vsts with vestige.
If you make a separate /home/you partition, future reinstalls will let you
keep most of your settings, by offering the option to only re-format
the root partition. Your browser and media settings, gui eye candy, data folders etc
will be intact to be re-used, if it's the same linux you reinstall. Saves some valuable time.
I rename the existing .wine folder, and copy over the vsts once the new .wine is configured.
Registered commercial apps may have and need windows registry content, so you can replace the
new .wine/user.reg with the old one.
The tiny text file .dmrc should be jotted down, in case you changed from a gui like
kde to xfce or lxde, you'll want to edit it to what the installer default is, just before
you do the new install.
If you want to future-proof certain crucial apps that are working well, you can have synaptic reinstall them,
and back up the fresh downloads from /var/cache/apt/archives.

Thank you so very much for the excellent re-install information. You explain it well.
When I am ready for it I will follow your directions.

Re: lmms does not load vsts with vestige.
Are you using the kxstudio repos ?
Lately wine-rt gave me troubles and FalkTX gave me some commands to fix it.
Don't remember exactly what these commands were, so better contact FalkTX if this is case.
