DrumGizmo and Qtractor

Post by bluebell »

Hi all,

I got some problems with DrumGizmo in Qtractor.
DrumGizmo has 1 midi in and 16 audio outs

- When I insert the module in a midi track I can play some instruments but I get only 2 audio outs
- When I insert the module in a audio bus with 16 audio outs I don't get any midi signals to it
- When I insert the module in a midi bus I also only get 2 audio outs

Any ideas?

I think with qtractor, the only thing that works is to load DrumGizmo into Carla (or another lv2 host) and use it as you would an external instrument.

corrrect. or maybe jalv (the reference lv2 host).

or maybe DrumGizmo has a a mode to mixdown all the 16ch into the 1st. 2-outs ? could be interesting as a feature request, but not really recommended. i guess DrumGizmo separates each drum piece or element per channel so you better off using it as a stand-alone external generator and route each output as you see fit.

hth.
cheers

It's a bit different with DrumGizmo: They don't assign different drums completely to different outs. Instead they placed several microphones in and around the drumset (front of kick drum, back of kick drum, overheads ...) and assign the microphones to different outs.

Anyway: Qtractor's design seems to be (by now) that plugins with midi input and audio outputs are only handled properly if they use not more than 2 audio outs.

This has some drawbacks but on the other side it has some advantages. I think it simplifies using linuxsampler.

I think what bluebell was looking for here is what I wanted to do.. It works with drumgizmo on Cubase and Ardour:
Cubase
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0hJ74nNJ7E
Ardour
http://libremusicproduction.com/tutoria ... zmo-ardour

I don't use Cubase and this works really bad under Ardour. The purpose for this would be to mix each drum separately.
Qtractor handle midi better than Ardour so this would be an excellent feature request.
