I got the code and am currenty thinking / working on a patch for a nice layer info display
Would indeed ease the process
Think, it ain't illegal yet
And use Qrest, it won't hurt : http://www.qrest.org

Ubuntu 12.04 + full KXStudio on an HP Pavilion dv7-6c70ef

Patch has been merged into Hydrogen code.
Will be part of next release : 0.9.6
