There are only 3 choices really if you are serious about recording.

Bitwig - best overall. Not open source, not free. The most polished DAW, not only on linux, it has that Jetbrains clean and modern quality feel. Most simple to use as well and packed with some powerful features that even behemoths like Ableton lack. Excellent MIDI functionality and loop based workflow.

Ardour - open source and free. Not as polished or feature packed like many paid alternatives.

Reaper - somewhere in between the two above. Not open source.

I hope you can help me decide! Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I'm self-employed, and I can confirm that my billable hours have noticeably dipped since I started tinkering! Not to mention I sleep a lot less now...

I am completely unsure whether you're pulling my leg or if someone really did start a QFC...
