No sound on KXStudio and Focusrite Scarlett 2i4
I've decided to switch to KXStudio and get a focusrite scarlett while I'm at it. I'm able to monitor my guitar playing through the scarlett headphone plug. But I can't configure jack to have any sound playing from applications such as Firefox, mp3 players and ultimately guitarix and ardour. In the j...

Re: Death Metal
Thanks funkmuscle, I'm sure this style of music isn't that popular around here (I see more posts about synthesizer than guitar) but wanted to announce it anyway because it has been really a lot of fun to create music on Linux.

Death Metal
I'm happy to announce some demos to my upcoming Death Metal demo CD: https://soundcloud.com/apathity My workflow is fairly simple: I use Ubuntu with Gnome, a behringer USB interface, jack, Audacity and of course guitarix. The guitar tone is rough (as it should be) and I'm extremely happy with what y...

Re: GNOME and Groupon: Trademark Battle
Seems to be resolved already. Maybe they could rebrand it to Bob, like MS Bob.
Do you think Groupon was actually aware that there's a OS/desktop called GNOME?

Re: mixing metal guitars too early in the mixing process?
Well so far I came to the conclusion that it is not a mixing issue, there are many higher-level issues when you open up a can of worms by recording 4 guitar takes. You're totally right about removing some processing though. It does seem to need a lot of experimenting with recording metal guitars. If...

Spaghetti Western (just a quick one)
Decided to upload this one because it happened by accident and it sounds kind of funny :) http://youtu.be/jrS1szsihb4 Recorded very quickly in guitarix and Audacity and some Hydrogen for the kick drum. There's actually 4 guitars: 2 takes of a basic chord panned left and right, one bassline and of co...

How do you actually identify "xruns"? I'm sure many newbies would like to know.

A ton of birthdays
Sometimes I see in the bottom panel of the forum a ton of birthday congratulations. Looks like the board is infested with a ton of spam accounts? Something tells me these are not real users: Congratulations to: budi0987 (25), veni9987 (25), asmi4728 (25), aulia8352 (25), rara5269 (25), gracia9567 (2...

Re: Good morning!
I'm still mostly working with Audacity too because I send demos to people who're using some Windows DAW. So I have simple WAV tracks for each instrument in Audacity. But when you add more than 15 tracks or so it will be quite unstable. Seeing how long Audacity is in development it will probably neve...

Re: Simple audio player that works with JACK
You can use VLC and connect it to JACK. Here's some info about the package: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1948086
It's a long time ago since I've tried it though.

Re: Linux Audio for Music teaching in Schools
Hm, just because jack is the underlying structure for everything, doesn't mean that you have to introduce it right away. Seasoned men have pulled their hair out in the jack connections window getting their instruments to work properly. Please think about the alternative! Installing the Fruity Loops ...

Re: hissing noise
Thanks a lot, I would have never assumed that it has to do with the headphones! I will check this out later.
