Re: Are there affordable microphones that last for decades?

Any idea what might be an affordable non-phantom power mic like the Shure SM58? Samson Q7 is very like the SM58 There is also a Q8 (allegedly a copy of Shure Beta 58 but never had the latter to compare) bit more than the Q7 but prefer the sound of it the Samson mics have neodymium elements and are ...

Re: Does anyone write a python JACK patchbay customized for one's own setup?

I looked into aj-snapshot before posting this thread. aj-snapshot doesn't do what I want. qjackctl comes with a GUI which I don't want to see at all. I want a daemon that can be run on a headless server. what do you require that is lacking from aj-snapshot? aj-snapshot has a -d or --daemon option a...

Re: How to remove a connection in patchage.

No keyboard shortcuts in Patchage

left click on 2 connected points to disconnect
or right click one connection point and select 'disconnect'

Re: m-audio Audiophile 2496 PCI - and getting nowhere...

In the Playback tab of the system "sound setting" display I have two volume control sliders 1) identified by a speaker icon and the words "system audio" 2) identified by a firefox icon and the words "audioIPCserver : audiostream on and three choices in a box a) builtin Audi...

Re: E-mu 0404 and getting nowhere...

The E-Mu 0404 does have the same emu10k1 IC as Creative cards. Appears to be used for soundfonts/dsp; MIDI; possibly digital IO. But, there are other ICs used for analog IO - Burr-Brown PCM1820 ADC and AKM AK4395 DAC. Both ICs are capable of 192kHz, but card can only support 96kHz. emu10k1 Creative ...

Re: Help.. Nvidia GPU trumps my soundcard..

nvidia GPU grabbing the default hw:0 slot in ALSA is very common If you can live without an onboard audio device, simple way to get rid of GPU in ALSA is blacklist the snd_hda_intel driver For most Linux versions using systemd, need to create a file in /etc/modprobe.d/ echo -e "blacklist snd_hd...

Do you mean Fedora Jam? I thought that was marked as out of date years ago

If you want a Linux audio distribution that is still active, check AVLinux or Ubuntu Studio

Re: Cadence session managment (patchbay) in Arch

There isn't really a full equivalent to QjackCtl patchbay Best I can think of is use a KX patchbay GUI (catarina or catia) or Patchage to sort out the connections then use aj-snapshot commands in terminal to save and restore connections this isn't a full GUI solution OP was looking for, but aj-snaps...

Re: E-mu 0404 and getting nowhere...

I just don't want to send signal through crappy preamps since I already have outboard gear. from this, no point to paying for a built-in preamp on an interface when outboard gear is likely much better USB line link cable or simple line-level interface would be enough to add USB connection but if th...

Re: E-mu 0404 and getting nowhere...

I have used a few old PCI audio cards with firmware support from alsa-tools package According to alsa-info.org E-MU 0404 uses EMU10k2/CA0102, same chip I have on Sound Blaster Audigy2 Only started looking at the Audigy2 again recently on old pc for a side project many of the features are supported i...

Re: Stop Pulseaudio temporarily

why not just use:

Code: Select all

pacmd suspend true
that was enough to suspend Pulseaudio for starting JACK
used to be something i used in QjackCtl pre-start script, but do not need it now
D-Bus prevents any possible squabble between JACK and Pulseaudio

Re: Most used Linux distribution?

MX Linux is a good Debian distribution, they have a great best persistent Live ISO for USB, but not good for audio

AVLinux on Debian is IMO most powerful audio distribution at this time

Ubuntu Studio is great for Linux newcomers wanting audio tools with easy setup - new release due in April

Re: qjackctl with "JACK Bridges"

Pulseaudio JACK connections can launch automatically with D-Bus when JACK starts If so, Cadence option to load Pulseaudio JACK connections may not be needed, unless 2nd pair of connections is wanted If not using D-Bus, Pulseaudio connections can be created after JACK is started with commands: pactl ...

Re: qjackctl with "JACK Bridges"

Pulseaudio to JACK bridge on Cadence is redundant If Pulseaudio is correctly configured with module-jackdbus-detect, Pulseaudio JACK Sink/Source connections are automatically loaded when JACK starts I have seen a few Cadence users turn on the Pulseaudio bridge option without noticing that connection...
