Re: John de Murga, creator of longtime Puppy Linux forum: R.I.P
Sad to hear it. I got initiated in Linux with Puppy, and for a long time it was my main distro. May he rest in peace <3

Re: Rated Blue - "Turnabout" (2020 REMIXES)
A very consistent and compelling collection of songs. For some reason, in summer I tend to listen to this kind of blues rock? hard rock?, and have found myself coming back to this playlist several times... I like a lot the riff of "You", and the chorus really touches me in a profound way: ...

Re: [MUSEIC] Maschinen Aesthetik (Kraftwerk tribute)
Thank you for your kind offering, but I don't think examining those files would help me; I guess it's just a matter of me practicing changing parameters and trying things until I get an ear for it... At least I don't have to build my own instruments like the Kraftwerk guys did...

Re: [MUSEIC] Maschinen Aesthetik (Kraftwerk tribute)
I'm curious about how you got to replicate Kraftwerk's sound so accurately; did you use soundfonts, or tweaked synth parameters until you found similar sounds? I'm starting to toy around with synths and it always take me a very long time to "sculpt" the sound into something usable. Any tip...

Re: Make humanization of drums by hand or leave it to DrumGizmo?
Yeah, my finger drumming isn't great either, but I really prefer to play something rather than using the midi grid. With Reaper it is crazy easy to slow down the song if you need to, and also I usually record in several passes: the first one just with keys z and x for kick and snare (maybe doing the...

Re: Make humanization of drums by hand or leave it to DrumGizmo?
I use Reaper too, and lately I've been trying the opposite approach: as I have less and less patience to program drums (all that click click is perhaps alright for someone who does techno, but for a rock track it feels all wrong to me), now I record the drums live, doing "finger drumming",...

Re: Hello everyone!
Welcome and thank you for offering the quid-pro-quo (I'm certainly more musician than Linux, but Linux is, by far, the least annoying of the 3 OS for my taste). To add to the database, the Focusrite Scarlett is a big favorite, from what I've read. I don't have one because when I was in the market fo...

Re: Thank-a-developer day
We don't like being forced to interact with animate objects. Funny, when I first saw this thread that's what came to my mind first. Of course I feel very grateful for all the great software, but I kinda picture most of developers as guys who see programming as sort of "solving complex sudokus&...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?
OK, got it, my mistake was that I didn't know there existed native VSTs for Linux too. I just assumed "VST means Windows, and the way to run it on Linux is through LinVST" (which I've done successfully often with VST 2; LinVST converts .dll to .so, and you're ready to go). The Izotope plug...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?
Native Reaper in Linux support VST3, you can check this with U-he, Surge or recent Auburn plugins Could you please elaborate on how you do that? I use Native Reaper, and recently tried to use Izotope RX 7 Decrackler. I didn't know about the version 2-3 divide, so I tried to run it through LinVST as...

Re: is Hydrogen better than Ardour for drums
I can't help but mention another option, I don't know if very popular but just to put it on the table... I used to have this kind of problems. Ardour (version 4 I think), and later Qtractor's Midi editor were both highly unstable, lacking basic functionality like reliable copy-paste (!) and sometime...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
any idea of what they could mean? They all happen within a second, so I think this is simply part of the process of shutting down JACK. Nothing to worry about. :) Yup, I've been using my system some more these days and it's rock solid (I'm able to record midi drums LIVE for the first time ever!), s...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
In the case of Ubuntu Studio 19, didn't have to install it, it came with it already.Linuxmusician01 wrote:How did y'all install jack_control?

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
Success! Thank you so much merlyn, the jack_control command finally did the trick: good bye to the cannot allocate error, for all qjackctl configurations, and even after rebooting. There's a peculiar side effect, though. Things go well during the session (although I still have to test further), but ...
