Re: Free! Music! Contest 2012
Thank you both guys for the information. Looks like a plan! I have some stuff in the works right now, so I'll do my best to send something. Nothing like a deadline to speed things up a little!

Re: The Halo Blue - You're Cordially Invited
Hey, I really liked the album, very well produced, and very rich in ideas and textures. FYI, I'd like to say that I uploaded it to my portable player (a Nokia cell phone), and some of the songs do not get recognized ('format not supported'). Strange because in the computer I can hear the whole album...

Re: Just amazed! Old newbie!
Welcome B4rney, it is always nice to see energy like yours! I relate to a lot of what you say, newbie myself, 37 years old and wondering how it happened, freaking out with the things Linux recording can do, and cursing all the wasted time that I could have used in writing songs. :) My weapon of choi...

Re: Hi from California, rediscovering an old hobby.
Welcome! In addition to the aforementioned Guitarix, for guitar there is also the excellent Rackarrack, which is the one I'm using because it came shipped with my distro (Puppy Studio), and it does everything except taking your dog out.

Re: Best desktop for low latency performance?
I settled a long time ago on Ratpoison WM and never looked back. It is strongly keyboard reliant, fully customizable, does not consume a single pixel of screen real estate, and its memory requirements are very little...

Re: FooFighters bring it at the Grammies
To me the whole point is having something to say. Technology, and technique, just add new paths to expression, as long as you don't use them just for the sake of it. Bob Dylan does not have a great voice, but he gets his message through. The Ramones' guitar player played only a F chord, which he mov...

Re: how to compile a binary?
In Puppy Linux, there is a tool called new2dir that you apply at the final step of compilation, i.e. new2dir make install instead of the usual make install The result is a bundled .pet package (the kind this distro uses). Puppy Linux is peculiar because it is intended to work in small machines and f...

Greetings from Spain
Hi there, my name is Nacho, I'm a Spanish musician and Linux geek, I'm 36, and very glad of having found this site. Here is a bit of my background: After several scattered attempts with Suse and other distros, I finally installed Puppy Linux in 2008 as my stable OS, and a few months later, I was con...
