Well, while I am quite drawn to the Ryzen, it will become after all an Intel i3-9100.
It's just stronger in terms of single core performance and latencies and no longer that much more expensive than the 3200G as it was a while ago. That's what it comes down to.

Re: audio PC build: Ryzen 3200G vs. i3-8100/9100
I would think the Ryzen 3200G is a good choice. Indeed, that's why I put it on the shortlist. But on the other hand I've read also not so nice things about it. Problems with the Vega 8 driver on the newer kernels, video encoding problems and the need to deactivate virtualization to make it run smoo...

audio PC build: Ryzen 3200G vs. i3-8100/9100
I'm about to build a new PC for audio production (and general use as well). Since I am on a budget, my CPU choice comes down to: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G or Intel i3-9100 (or i3-8100) I'll be running Ubuntu 20.04. Which one is preferable? Price difference is not really a factor, because while the Intel is ...

Re: SFZ Player for Linux
I managed to install wine-staging.
Sforzando GUI is now working. I tried the VPO oboe sample in sforzando -> it does loop.

Re: SFZ Player for Linux
I didn't have Wine installed before, it got automatically installed when I installed the Carla-Bridges. Version is Wine (development version) 3.6-1 from the Bionic repos. (As I wrote before I am on Ubuntu Studio 18.04 with backports PPA). So, would I have to uninstall existing Wine versions first an...

Re: SFZ Player for Linux
Alright, so I installed carla-bridge-win32 and carla-bridge-win64 and with it wine got installed automatically. I could then install sforzando in wine without any warnings. Now I can load sforzando vst in Carla Rack. But as soon as I click the little gear icon to open the GUI a warning comes up that...

Re: SFZ Player for Linux
Thanks to both of you for the suggestions but right now I'd like to try out Sforzando first. So, if someone could guide me to which Wine version/package I need to install first, do I need to configure Wine? Winetricks? Or just double click on the Sforzando exe and go? As I said, my system ist Ubuntu...

Re: SFZ Player for Linux
No, I just come from an experience with sfizz and it didn't work perfectly for me. (See the recent thread about Virtual Playing Orchestra in the "Newbies" section of the forum.) Now I want to find out wether sfizz is the source of the problem or not and for this I want to try out Sforzando.

Re: virtual-playing-orchstra with Ardour on Ubuntu Studio 19.10
Finally, if nothing is working with the template, try creating a brand new Ardour project, add a few midi tracks with sfizz, load up one of the orchestral instruments on each one, make a reverb bus with Dragonfly Hall (load the medium clear hall setting), make an aux send on each midi track to the ...

Re: SFZ Player for Linux
That being said, I really like sforzando. It's a WIndows native app but runs extremely well using WINE staging. I would like to try it out. But I've never used any Windows VSTs in Linux, so no experience there on how to go this way. I'm using Ubuntu Studio 18.04+Backports PPA. What would I need to ...

in '/home/markus/.config/ardour5/templates/Virtual Playing Orchestra/Virtual Playing Orchestra.template' i have changed the path to 'template-dir="/Users/markus/Library/Preferences/Ardour5/templates/Virtual Playing Orchestra"' I think here lies the error. The path you changed to is not co...

Re: virtual-playing-orchstra with Ardour on Ubuntu Studio 19.10
Sfizz is version 0.2.0 from here: https://github.com/sfztools/sfizz/releases/download/v0.2.0/sfizz-v0.2.0-linux-amd64.tar.gz By the way, besides the "bin" and "lib" directories there was also a third directory in it that I can't make sense of, it's called "include" and ...

Re: virtual-playing-orchstra with Ardour on Ubuntu Studio 19.10
The first thing I suggest is try the standard SFZ files from VPO instead of performance. If you don't have them yet, it's just a matter of downloading and extracting them to the same place. Then open up the sfizz plugin, let's say the one on the oboe track, and load one of the standard oboe SFZ fil...

Re: virtual-playing-orchstra with Ardour on Ubuntu Studio 19.10
Yey, it worked (getting sound by changing the paths, that is). But now I encountered some problems: First of all my very old MIDI-Keyboard (Roland D-10) is not VPO-perfomance orchestra compatible, I need a modwheel. And I have some clicks (weird sounds) regularly occuring when playing and/or recordi...
