Re: Step by Step KXStudio upgrade Linux Mint/Ubuntu/Debian/e

Updated the guide. Tested Mint 17RC Cinnamon. Seems to work with the repos like every other flavor of Mint/Ubuntu I've tried. Not sure if I'll make the switch on my primary partition yet or not? They broke by favority desktop choice of Cairo-dock/GNOME session. They moved away from GNOME code starti...

Re: Ardour 3 crashes (a lot!) on 14.04

I was able to work for 12 straight hours with NO crashes in 12.04, and I had A LOT of stuff going on. Though it seems to be totally luck of the draw on bugs, here's what the track I was working on consisted of: -29 Audio Tracks -5 MIDI Tracks -7 Busses -Reason 5.0 via WineAsio -Hydrogen -2 instances...

Re: Step by Step KXStudio with Linux Mint/Ubuntu/Debian/etc.

A question better posed in the KXStudio forum here. But if you're using this setup I believe what happens behind the scenes at startup is PulseAudio is killed and everything that's not a JACK app just thinks it's using ALSA and then dumps into JACK from their.

Got TouchDAW working with Ardour

This $5 app has exceded my expections(and so has the $40 android tablet I'm running it on!) For those of you that don't know, Touch DAW is an emulation of a Mackie Control Universal DAW controller. It's emulation is near perfect to the real $1000 unit, and you get some cool extras like an on screen ...

Would like to get it working again. Didn't use it for a while, now I can't get JACK to start with it, Mint 13+KXStudio.

Re: Step by Step KXStudio with Linux Mint/Ubuntu/Debian/etc.

Sorry I've been away from the community for so long that one of the most popular guides in the How-To Section has been broken for months since things started moving to the debian repos. I have tested this guide in Mint, though I have yet to test Debian, or some of the new exotics brought in by the m...

Re: New computer for falkTX !!!

Ardour is part of raspberry pis stock repo. It will compile on ARM. It even works ok. Just depends on the capabilities of the ARM device you're using. Within rasp pi I found it quite usable for 4-track mixdown and basic daw functions. Can't load too many plugins though.

Re: Step by Step KXStudio with Linux Mint!

Bodhi is a great low resourse choice! E17 takes some getting used to, but is a strong desktop choice!. Haven't updates this in a while. Time to polish some things up!

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

Go read through the thread if you like. All the discussion can be summarized as: people discuss things about liking or disliking KDE, while interwoven with that i2 blames people for stopping him from doing his project, taking all the fun out of things, disrespecting him, telling him what to think, ...

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

Why do you keep coming back to e17 for me? While I've spoken on it as a desktop for everyone, it's still not my favorite. I don't think it matters what I say about KDE, you're just going to tell me a way to tweak it to make it better, or tell me that it's insignificant. I gave a specific example, an...

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

your writing comes across to me as hating on KDE rather than just remarking about the positive qualities of E17 As I've said a couple of times here, I never wanted to get into this. But since my name is now at the top of this thread titled, "Why people don't like KDE?" I think I'm doing a...

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

lol @ ram usage. Both Firefox and Chrome(ium) use huge amounts of RAM. Here with just 2 tabs it's using 300Mb, and I know if I open a lot of them I can quickly go pass 1Gb! Now heh, does RAM usage matter that much? I have 4Gb in my laptop, I would feel bad if not using them, they can get lonely... ...

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

I do also believe it's bloated(and unintuitive at the same time!) I haven't used it in a while, so I'd have to actually 'attempt' to use it again, to give you a full run down of what I mean. But, by bloat I do mean, that you're looking at KDE from the KXStudio 12.04 at around 300 MB loaded on my mac...

I think we're talking general desktops here. And what should and should not be before studio packages are added.

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

If you want to try another desktop, it is best to do a fresh install. Pick a flavor of Ubuntu(preferably 12.04), just about any flavor will do. Then use the kxstudio ubuntu upgrade guide. I'll give you a list of my preferred distros for various desktops: Cinnamon-Mint 13(Cinnamon) MATE-Mint 13(MATE)...
