Re: Hydrogen 1.0.0 released

So glad to see probability in the stable release! I asked for this a while back only to find that it was already in the nightly builds. So I was running those for a while just to have that.

I mostly use it to add ghost notes here and there or drop an off-beat kick occasionally to humanize a beat.

Re: a plugin version of Kawai K1 now has linux version

However, I think it really isn't much more than just a sample player. The samples can be stacked (four of them), the ADSR curves can be edited and modulated a bit. I wish you could import samples yourself, so it'd work as a no-nonsense player for your own samples too. The K1 (and K4 after it) hail ...

Re: a plugin version of Kawai K1 now has linux version

My first "real" synth was a Kawai K4, which is basically the K1 but with resonant filters and an effects processor. It's been on extended loan to a friend for about 10 years, so this plugin brought back some memories. It made me not as anxious to get my K4 back, for one thing :). For what ...

Re: New to Linux - using Ubuntu Studio and having hardware trouble

You might try disabling pulse audio first. I've had that kind of issue with pulse. I don't remember the commands to do this, but if you search "disable pulseaudio" you should be able to find some info on this. Another possibility is that your jack settings are too low-latency for what your...

Re: Anyone else having Ardour 6 segfaults?

I go back and forth on the static base thing. It's good in theory, but every time I've tried to make it work for a long time, I run into frustrations with not being able to get something newer. My first Linux DAW was Ubuntu Studio, WAYYYYY back around 2006ish, and I could never make it work consiste...

Re: Anyone else having Ardour 6 segfaults?

That's good to hear. I may be upgrading my DAW hardware soon, so maybe it's time for me to give AV linux a try. I used Antergos on my current one because I wanted to take the bull by the horns and have all the plugins from the AUR, but that was some years ago when I wanted more synths and experiment...

Yeah, same here. If I could connect something I'm doing to the crash, I'd report it. I don't wanna be that guy who posts "Ardour crashes a lot. Bye."

Anyone else having Ardour 6 segfaults?

Started working on a couple new songs this month and decided to upgrade my Arch DAW, which took me to Ardour 6.0. It's got some great changes, but it's been crashing on me A LOT. Usually right after I stop recording or edit a region; it stutters, freezes, and segfaults. Subsequently upgraded to 6.2,...

Re: Still waffling over nearfields

I still haven't bought anything; had to shelve my upgrade plans with the COVID lockdowns and all. Got some book royalties this month though and I'm determined to treat myself to some monitors. I'm kind of leaning towards the iLound micros. Not as good as the MTM or the HS5, I know, but I've come to ...

Ah, thanks; you have a much newer model than mine. I think mine will only go to 2.3, and I have to buy a chip for that.

Re: Selfish Ledger (Collage-1)

Nice ambiance and feel, good groove. I like the way the vocal samples just become this sort of vaguely-human rhythm component. Reminds me of the vibe on Brian Eno's "Nerve Net" album.

Re: Scheherazade

Very exciting composition, it has a great buildup and nice finale. Your sister did a great job, and I like the way you ended it with the singing crowd. I had a middle-eastern phase years ago; my brother spent some time in Turkey and i visited for a few weeks, bought a darbuka and a saz that I never ...

Re: Monogatari 01 (acoustic, folk)

That's a nice composition, I like the feel on the guitar track a lot. reminds me a bit of 80's-era King Crimson. Would love to hear it with a more natural replacement for the violin soundfont.
