Re: Pop Album mixed in Linux

Die CD die ich für unsere Tochter bestellt hatte kam eben an - danke nochmal für den Tip, Benjamin. Und für den guten Mix auch! Sie hört's gerade auf ihrem Nexus 5X... in English: thanks again to @singforme for the info about the CD, which just arrived. Our daughter is listening to it right now on h...

Re: Advice: best budget headphones

Second that, @sysrqer - mixing on headphones isn't really advisable. But I don't have space for nearfield monitors here, and as a bass player and former sound engineer I think I can still judge the bass even from headphones. Comparing it with other headphones and devices also helps as you wrote alre...

Re: Advice: best budget headphones

Hi G, I was about to ask what "budget" exactly means. You might also have to consider whether you need closed, isolating headphones (good to shield the monitoring from highly sensible condenser mikes from singers, for example), or headphones for mixing (here open ones are also very advisab...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Second Generation

which revision of 18i20 would you personally choose now Having the 6i6 2nd gen, I would always go for the 2nd gen again. Mine runs with 5.3ms latency in Ardour, no hiccups and/or xruns. And I also live with the solution @daeavelwyn pointed out - setting it up once with Windows, never changing it no...

Re: Video Editing in Linux

Played around with it lately, when working on a recording of our daughter's piano class. My wife took it on video (and audio from her camera), and I had another and better microphone over the piano. While video editing with Cinelerra CV was ok, I did all the audio stuff still in Ardour (mostly cross...

Re: Interested ? (jam112)

Hi jonetsu, That's a nice bass. What is the signal path to Ardour ? Thanks. The bass goes directly into my Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (2nd gen) interface. Inside Ardour I use some of the Calf plugins, but mostly a mild (2:1) compressor and the high- and lowpass of the 8-band eq only. ...here's the guita...

Re: Interested ? (jam112)

Ok guys (and/or girls?), thanks for your patience. I have identified that in the bars 23 and 47 (when setting this to 110bpm and considering it as 4/4) there's an 'E' instead of a 'D' in the bass - so I replicated that. I also made another track with a little fill upwards just after those. You can f...

Re: Interested ? (jam112)

Hi all, here's my fretless as a single wav (zipped) file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5cxd09zz4y2x82f/Fretless%20Bass%20%28by%20wjl%29-1.zip And yes, I also recognized that there's a conflicting bass note somewhere in the whole (didn't dig in deeper to identify it) - but in this version I stuck to you...

Re: Interested ? (jam112)

Ok; re-uploaded it to my dropbox (the complete Ardour session in 48k): https://www.dropbox.com/s/yzi1550drff0xwd/jam112.zip I just played the same bass line you had - if you'd like something else instead, I could also try that. Still not mixed; in case you don't use Ardour, you'll find my (mono) bas...

Re: Interested ? (jam112)

Here is it so far, with just about no mixing, straight from the forge. A smooth one. https://soundcloud.com/nominal6/test-jam112 ... If not interested, that's very fine. Please do not feel obliged. I have dozens and dozens of such improvs standing by. All sharing would be done using MIDI and audio ...

For our English readers: my daughter...

Re: Pop Album mixed in Linux

Hi Wolfgang, drums are mostly Garageband's new Drummer feature. It's the coolest Auto-Drummer I've ever seen. If anyone in the Linux-World would like to have a go at programming something like it, tit would be really cool. You can choose a drummer character and a drum set and then it analyses the a...

Re: Is the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen Compatable with linux?

Hi @Oldmac,

didn't try the 2i2 - but I have the 6i6 2nd gen, which runs perfectly fine. Should be the same for that smaller one.

LG,
Wolfgang

Re: Pop Album mixed in Linux

Ah cool singforme, thanks for the explanation! So the instruments (like e-piano and drums) are from Garageband? Or did you only take the midi data and used the mentioned Linux tools & plugins like the mda e-piano? I guess my main question is about the drums: are these real drums, or some from Ga...
