Re: The Art of Mastering

I'm not doing mastering yet. I have gone through the motions a couple of times, but I can\t say I'm doing mastering. The discussion here is interesting. One thing I know to achieve portability is that there should be a representation of every instrument in the 400Hz-2KHz range. For a bass it might b...

Re: U-he free Protoverb random room-simulator

Would it be possible to set up a 'static' (for lack of better term) post that contains links to free and commercial plugins ? These links would be gathered from the pots here. It will not be a complete list, but would only represent, or try to, the links that were posted here. After all, it's not li...

Re: U-he free Protoverb random room-simulator

I've posted about Protoverb some time ago. I used it on several sketches, although I use it for specific instruments, not on each track. Varying reverbs is also nice. Zrev from u-he could be interesting also, although a different approach and, is a research tool. Speaking of modeling, hopefully this...

Re: Downloaded sounds

The idea in general would be, as per the original question, why would one want to pursue Windows software while wanting to use Linux. Omnispehere nor Garageband are running in Linux, do they ?

Re: Wow! check this!

As far as regular reverbs goes, the free Protoverb from u-he is nice. It's in prototype state but functional and was created as a survey tool for users to give feedback (survey now expired). Takes some CPU, but the sound can be quite good. They also have Zrev which is a reverb research tool. Not sur...

Re: Wow! check this!

I see - thanks for the explanation. Then made an extension of the current IR that could include several transmission lines could benefit fromt he work that's already done. Then again, this transmission line must be some kind of a wide cone, not a tunnel, and would also include reflections from behin...

Re: Various Electronica Projects

Thanks for the reference. I've briefly looked at lists before, and I made one some time ago. There's also the 'spotlight' option that Dave uses. Neither will address a single link, though. Like when having a new piece and posting a link to that new piece only. Lists are cumbersome to work with as th...

Re: Various Electronica Projects

I've listened to a few. Quite nice. Atmospheres are established and kept. I liked what I've heard, will listen to more later. It has an organic feel that is somewhat echoed with the Western theme. Sidenote: I do not want really to write a lot about this but... I didn't 'liked' the pieces because I d...

Re: Site logo

Funny how the logo depicts an 'inside the box' thing/think. Reinforced by the bold/brick fonts. And then flanked by 'creating music freely'. There's immediate tension - if not drama - created by the two.

Re: Wow! check this!

I'm thinking about implemening tool that will model reverb depending on the room you've drawn on the sheet. But it's the work not for one month. The main idea is to implement 3D raytracing algorithm that is pretty greedy to PC resources. So maybe sometimes LSP plugins will implement this. Notwhitst...

Re: Fill out U-he survey=Get$25 coupon in email

You can get it, as well as any other u-he Linux synth, from the first post of the KVR thread which gets updated as new releases are made: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=424953 Although it says 'beta', all synths are working extremely well. They basically are in 'beta' because...

Re: windows refugee from NYC

Are there people 'locked' in such a way that they will not look around ? Like buying car wash soap, dry towels and cleaners from the car dealer instead of the hardware store, never bothering whta's about those hundred brands in the store. I guess so, and it's even more surprising in a domain we woul...

Re: Waverazor

It is termed as agressive. So that's where I see the challenge. I all NAMM presentations there were once in while software waves being made, so I think all hope is not lost. Sometimes I listen to music in which a good amount of noises are used, in such a way that it blends OK. So I would like to exp...

Re: windows refugee from NYC

Thanks for the comments ! About Bitwig locking users and specifying Ubuntu: recently in a discussion with Robin Gareus of Ardour/Mixbus/X42 I compared the dependencies of both Mixbus and Bitwig. The problem was that the Zynsubaddfx synth would not load in Mixbus. It turns out that Bitwig, being a com...
