Re: Trying to use Plogue Chipsounds VST but getting Direct2D error

  • What distro / version are you running

  • What version of Wine is installed?
    WRT Wine, I would recommend trying to use the wine-staging release, if your are on a Debian-based system.

Re: Carla Patch bay Confusion

HosAdeeb Within JACK, no ALSA port appear that would correspond to the synth instances on the Carla rack! Hence, Rosegarden, for example, doesn't see them! Carla has a "multi-port" mode (run I think via carla-jack-multi ), where every plugin has its own ports: but unfortunately, that is a...

February Album Writing Month 2024

The FAWM website is now open for signups (or re-sign-ins) prior to the February 1 start. If you aren't already familiar, FAWM is an online community, centered around the challenge of writing an album (defined as 14 songs) in the month of February. Re: Can Linuxsampler or Sfizz reliably play SFZ files made for Sforzando?

Audiojunkie Your two best bets for near-Kontakt quality will be with Sfizz, Decent Sampler, and Sforzando (with WINE). Start with the first two, and move to WINE only if you can't find what you need. If you end up deciding to use Sforzando as well, then be sure to check out the high quality offerin...

Re: The next AVLinux with Ardour8 and pipewire?

GMaq It's a PipeWire world now... I'd say we aren't quite there, yet. Could you elaborate about what makes you want to claw your eyes out? The major one is that there is no central point for configuring PW. There are still way too many cases where I have to find / tweak config files, scattered acro...

Re: Steven Slate Drums 5

Tarrasque The yabridge known issue linked above by tjarx says: If a plugin seems to work fine except for the fact that the GUI never seems to update when you interact with it, then try installing DXVK. Many recent JUCE-based plugins don't redraw anymore when using WineD3D. Make sure you also instal...

Re: AV Linux MX Edition 23.1 (AVL-MXe) Released!

@GMaq

Bear in mind Enlightenment's base 'EFL' libraries handle these types of things very efficiently there is virtually no memory cost for the bling.

I don't care (much) about the resource costs -- I object to bling trying to grab my attention away from the things that matter.

Re: AV Linux MX Edition 23.1 (AVL-MXe) Released!

GMaq Thanks very much for the hours of hard work you put into this release! Like you, I'm ambivalent about the switch to Pipewire, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Firing up the Live USB, I bounced pretty hard off of some of the Enlightenment quirkiness: the one which made me shut it down and com...

Re: Carla (help with basic nodes / 'wiring') ?

NomadJago [H]ow do I connect whatever so I hear the notes? What connects to what? You want the MIDI Input ( Capture 1 ) wired to the "event1" input of the Sonatinua, and then wire up the various Sontatina output_# ports routed to the Left and Right channels of the AudioOutput sink: at a g...

Re: New Linux Studio?

Tippe My preferred Audio-MIDI-Sequenzer is Qtractor and I'm using mostly .sf2 sound files via CALF Fluidsynth. This is caused by my preferred musical style to compose: Symphonic and Orchestral Music. I have lots of .sf2 files containing waves from real orchestral instruments. Since I have almost 2 ...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

@lilith

Hmm, looks like you've downloaded the Github JSON metadata, rather than the xruncounter.c file itself.

If you aren't cloning the repo with git, try using the "raw" version of the file:

Re: BespokeSynth: Temporarily change time signature to 4/1

mcord I have a project with a 4/4 time signature in Bespoke. At one point, I would like to play a single beat and then reset the timeline and continue with 4/4. I presume this would be doable with setting the time signature to 4/1 and then back to 4/4 using the songbuilder and snapshots combo, exce...

Re: [ANN] yabridge 5.1.0, a long-awaited maintenance release

robbert-vdh Most notably, this fixes ... a VST3 compatibility issue with Ardour 7.3 through 8.1, once Ardour 8.2 gets released. FWIW, Ardour 8.2 was released on 2023-12-13: https://discourse.ardour.org/t/ardour-8-2-released/109615 I'm a little puzzled how a new Ardour release would fix an issue for...

Re: vocal recording via ardour

duckmanstool As most of the other posts suggest, I would record the dry signal for your vocals, and add plugins as needed to get the sound you like. However, to get the best vocal performance, you might want to monitor through plugins while recording: e.g., I like to hear my voice slightly compress...
