Re: Hi from London UK!

Thanks for the welcome peeps :)
I've used the handle Folderol all over the place, but the first time I remember hearing the word was as a kid where some comic singers sang it when they (supposedly) forgot the words, ending up with them singing nothing but folderol :)

Re: how 2 find/create a midi/rosegarden/paper bass track?

Why not try playing along to the original? Cut out short sections and loop them in (say) audacity, then play a keyboard till it sounds the same. Once you've got it right, record that section in any of the MIDI aware sequencers. Rinse and repeat. When you have the whole thing to your satisfaction cor...

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

Traditional musicians? A family friend (long gone now) was a professional pipe organist, and played in many cathedrals, theatres and even humble village churches. Something I picked up from him was the need to play to what an instrument can achieve. Apparently, a 32ft pedal F can have a rise time of...

Very nicely done!

Of course the question is who holds the copyright, you or Hatsune Miku

Re: Xruns on linux mint 17.2 and kxstudio software

I do think people get too hung up on latency. Speed of sound through air at room temperature is about 340m/S or 34cm / milisec, so if you are a metre away from you speakers you already have a latency of around 3mS. Live musicians on stage are likely to be 2 to 3 metres away, yet they don't seem to h...

Re: I regret updating to Debian Testing

I got bitten by that in the days of sarge and ended up with a completely borked machine. The only answer was wipe & re-install which was not so easy in those days. Now I won't touch testing until it's well down the line - almost about to become the new stable.

Thanks again. It seems a nice neck of the woods here so I guess I'll hang around :)

Thanks. That was it. I don't know how I missed it (new glasses needed?) I can finally make this the default on my DAW and retire squeeze :)

Have you looked at your bios power management? If it's stepping the CPU clock speed that will almost certainly cause xruns.

Re: Strange difference

No. That's not it. Checking with synaptic kernel 4.1 simply isn't listed at all, and yes, I did remember to update the repositories.

Re: Regular disk drive vs. Solid-state

I don't think USB sticks have the same level of protection as SSDs. Also, as well as being slower, you also have the USB bottleneck to contend with. Might be OK for loading apps or saving complete files, but I wouldn't want to trust active data read/writes to them. Incidentally, I read recently, tha...

Strange difference

I have two 64bit machines. One an Intel the other AMD. Both had debian jessie installed in exactly the same way. Within the last couple of days I followed the instructions to add the KX repositories, again in exactly the same way. However, on the Intel machine I've been able to install the 4.1 preem...

Good contrast in both the tone quality and dynamics in each half. Timing a little suspect in a couple of places in the quieter part.

Re: seeking HW advice for new SW project

Just a few notes on the hardware side. In general, for impedance you want to go low to high so a 10k ohm output into a 100k input is fine. The other way round might be a problem. This is especially true of passive pickups which is why guitar amp inputs are usually around 1Meg. Special cases are some...
