Re: New Garage Band Recorder

Welcome. Lots of good stuff here. Though some on here are into the sythy stuff, which has some different requirements to recording a band.

I am sure a good Google will get you some helpful videos

Re: A free Harrison plugin. And it's good.

Is it any different from old mastering eq plugin they have? The interface is slightly different but the main thing is they have added a visual display of the frequencies. EDIT: AVA Plugins are also vst and much more cross platform than previous lv2 versions Display of freq's sounds great, I've been...

Re: Template for Ardour and drumgizmo

I use drumgizmo in Mixbus and it has the best drums I have been able to get. When you get a decent Drumgizmo setup, save it as a template for future use (you can do this in Mixbus and its cousin Ardour). That saves setting it up every time. I have my drumgizmo setup with channels mixed, reverb setup...

Re: DrumGizmo 0.9.17 Released!

When you open Drumgizmo in Mixbus or Ardour it gives the option to fan the drums out to multiple channels and you can mix the kit. I have created a template for the DRS kit so that I do not have to set up from scratch. Sorry, I do not know how you do this in Muse. yeah I know but it doesn't control...

Re: Harrison Mixbus in $49 deal at dontcrack

Cheers EG, that's the kind of very useful info I need. It sounds like you're very experienced with Mixbus. I've only one project in Ardour but it is finished bar final mixing/mastering. I'll do the import test into Mixbus for the experience and to test the differences! Would you recommend any of th...

Re: Harrison Mixbus in $49 deal at dontcrack

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I think I'll give Mixbus another go and probably get it when on offer, if I get on with it. I'll be making a donation to the Ardour devs anyway. If you are using Ardour you will be able to open your projects in Mixbus but some settings, such as pan, do not transfe...

Re: DrumGizmo 0.9.17 Released!

As a side note or a request, any change of adding a mixer to DG? The DRSKit's hihats are really loud that I only use the overhead track and yet it's still louder that the cymbals. I could lower the hihats by lowering the velocity in the midi events but that's a lot of work. Unless I'm missing somet...

Re: Harrison Mixbus in $49 deal at dontcrack

Mixbus has a unique mixer based on Harrison's world class consoles. EQ, limiting/ compression high pass and Mixbus sends are built into every channel. It has eight (or 12 with the premium version) fixed mix busses each with tape saturation eq and compression/ limiting . The master bus also has satur...

Re: What preference do you have for DAWs?

I use Mixbus (Commercial, but the demo is free to try). I am old fashioned musician playing and recording instruments. I cut my teeth on analogue gear in the pre-digital pre-PC days and I love it. Mixbus has a mixer based on Harrison Console's studio grade hardware. A lot of the stuff you need (comp...

Re: Linux Distro to make music with an old PC

Try the version of Raspbian (the raspberry Pi OS) that has been released for normal Pcs. This is Debian designed to be very light and has full access to Debian repos. EDIT: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspberry-pi-desktop/ According to one article the minimum requirement for RAM is 512MB!

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?

Thank you for the responses. The video is unfortunately unwatchable, at least for my eyes/screen  I can't distinguish what the terminal says. So I tried raboof's command: $ SOUND_CARD_IRQ=129 ./realTimeConfigQuickScan.pl and I get: Can't locate QuickScanEngine.pm in @INC (you may need to inst...

Re: EEK. Ubuntu studio using system wide instance of pulseaudio

I am still disabling pulse as it did interfere and cause xruns

I set it so it does not respawn and put commands to stop and start it within my qjackctl setup

I think you can also use the services command to stop it. I use services and kill everything I don't need before a session.

Re: KX Studio at the End of Standard Support - what now?

If I installed Librazik is it enough like Debian that I can just use it? According to my experiences: Yes. It's very user-friendly. You may install the librazik-apt-non-fr package https://librazik.tuxfamily.org/doc2/comprehension/paquets_librazik#librazik-apt-non-fr . This might help a lot for all ...
