Re: Lost and Found - My "Albumatross"
Thanks for your comments, all. turbidh20: I love your Hendrix dragon avatar! MichaelWillis: Connecting best with an instrumental piece I think is a true mark of being a music geek! Yes, those three songs used lmms, and the TripleOscillator synth was the backbone of all three. I had a lot of fun shap...

Re: New Guy Here....
Welcome to the forum, and glad to have you here! My setup is fairly similar, except that my hardware is an old beater, repurposed to be my studio machine. Someday I'll upgrade, but it's working fine for now. Also my guitars are not as nice, but they get the job done. :) Those interests are not as ec...

Re: Lost and Found - My "Albumatross"
Thank you for your comments, everyone. I was hoping that this album would hit an emotional sweet spot for a lot of people. Everyone knows what it's like to feel a little lost, and the joy and relief of finding your way again. Barbarosa, thank you for your comments, and for that lovely picture. I wil...

Re: A guideline for minimal audio configuration
I have to admit I don't compile Linux kernels while doing audio work. LOL. I think we found the problem. I had a good friend back when I was in school who was a Gentoo user. Always compiling something-or-other. "Why would I use someone else's binaries?" he used to say, as if he just could...

Re: My first recording in a full Linux environment ^^
I really like your style. Do I hear an influence from The Cure in your guitar phrasing and layering?
I have been thinking of buying an Ibanez hollowbody. You're getting some nice tones out of yours. Which one do you have? I have been looking at the AM53. Do you like it?

An angry Donald Duck plays with a drum machine. . . I like it! Seriously, you laid down a pretty solid track here, especially considering that these are new tools to you. I like the little touches, like the wandering filter cutoff on your synth arpeggio. This track is even more proof that anything s...

Re: The Secret Books
Nice improv. I think the drums could be a little more prominent, and could help give the song a bit of structure. It's funny - your songs seem to alternate between extremes. On the one hand there are these usually very gentle orchestral synth pieces, and then on the other hand these improvs with dis...

I generally agree with that sentiment.crocket wrote:Minimalism pays off by freeing a lot of your time for really important things.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't JACK sit on top of ALSA? I didn't know it was possible to run JACK without it.

Lost and Found - My "Albumatross"
Hey all. I finally finished a solo album I have been recording off and on for 15 years. Many of the songs I have posted to this forum before, but I spent all year remastering them, and the last couple of months recording the title track. Here is the album page, with download links: https://alansande...

Re: Very cool overtone singer
Very interesting. This looks different from Tuvan throat singing, where the overtones actually come from the larynx. (Speech pathologists call it a "laryngeal whistle.") I have no idea how to amplify an overtone with your mouth. This is the first I've ever heard of that. I'll have to do so...

It's all about tradeoffs. I had a G3 iBook that I used a lot in 2004-2007. For as much money as I spent on the thing when I was a poor student I expected to get a lot more mileage from it. But when the GPU failed for second time it was no longer under warranty, and there was no point in spending so ...

Cool video! I especially liked the part where he showed how the wood structures were built. Those were amazing craftsmen, and it is amazing that the buildings have stood for so long! Thanks for sharing.

Re: Mint 19.2 how to start jackaudio?
One other detail: Audacious won't play a file that is not at the same sample rate at what JACK is running. Most of your audio files are probably in 44.1 KHz, so make sure JACK is running at 44.1 before trying to play a file in Audacious. There is a workaround for this within Ardour, an extension th...

Re: Mint 19.2 how to start jackaudio?
I'm not at my Linux box right now, because I'm a Windows user at work, so these instructions are from memory and might not be entirely accurate: 1. Go to the Audacious menu and choose the Sounds tab or submenu. 2. There is a drop-down menu for which sound system to use. The default is probably ALSA ...
