Re: auto-routing

The other day I had a cool electronic-acoustic jam on my KXStudio box with a friend who usually uses Live and while I was hurriedly setting up all the connections he remarked about how complicated it all looked, saying how in ableton all he has to do is open a track and drop in some plugins and he'...

Re: Move KXStudio to ArchLinux?

I love Arch. Totally. But I run ubuntu. Why? Because even though I'm a very experienced linux professional, the install process is too long and annoying. So I voted yes , because, like it has done with ubuntu studio and it's terrible audio implementation, I anticipate that an arch based KX would fix...

Re: Best way to install KXstudio?

Well, cheers then. As far as I'm concerned, I'll be happy to have the recommendation to everyone be: just install the KXStudio ISO. It works. I concur. I guess I'm just thinking about those who want a different DE. Historically, the instruction has been: . Distro with your DE of choice + kx reposit...

Re: Best way to install KXstudio?

I have found that the native KDE installation from the KX DVD behaves much more cleanly than an over-the-top-of-ubuntu-studio install (For example, redshift widget doesn't work on the non-kxstudio one). Todd, I agree about the KXStudio install as the way to go, but a couple things about redshift: a...

I have found that the native KDE installation from the KX DVD behaves much more cleanly than an over-the-top-of-ubuntu-studio install (For example, redshift widget doesn't work on the non-kxstudio one) I wonder if those who prefer a different DE, might do better to install from the KX DVD, and then ...

Re: M-Audio 1010 small problems

Before applying the above workaround, I would check to ensure that this behaviour of the levels not persisting a reboot, is normal. If it's not normal, you should figure out what's actually wrong with it :)

Re: .asoundrc and HDMI output

Ahh OK. I have my HTPC acting as a netjack slave so I can have my guests in my lounge room control the music in the studio via the TV and some joysticks and such. Last week they were playing emulated Nintendo games (Mednafen does jack output!), and we routed the sound out to the studio and fed it in...

Re: .asoundrc and HDMI output

Out of curiousity, why not just always use jack? It will happily output to HDMI :)

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

I think it's important not to blur the lines between configurability and bloat. You don't need one to have the other, they aren't really related. When you can't find the option in the system to configure what you want the way you want it, because there's too damn many configuration options spread o...

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

I'll share a story with you. Once, I had a contract to migrate from Outlook email to GroupWise for a customer. We're talking about a few thousand desktops. The project went smoothly, and the day came for the new client to be rolled out. The helpdesk was inundated with calls, the Management team call...

Re: Enable S/PDIF PCM with JACK Audio by adding IEC958 in KM

That formula is applicable to all sound cards, btw - but the 1ms trick is USB specific.... It's about polling rates IIRC. USB was never intended for realtime stuff..... We just get away with it thanks to excess bandwidth ;)

Re: Why people dont like KDE ?

OK 2c: I like options. Parameters, settings, configs, mods, gimme gimme gimme. XFCE outperforms KDE and gnome 2 or 3 by a mile... but when I saw the options in KDE, I was like, wow, awesome. I'm sold. I think it's important not to blur the lines between configurability and bloat. You don't need one ...
