Re: KX Studio 12.04
what you did to get Cadence to have a friendly check for real-time though Do you mean this... realtime.jpg It just does . Or do you mean how to get Cadence to run Jack in realtime? But, again, I'm fairly sure that if it can, it just does. Note that I have a low latency, not rt kernel. If I remember...

Re: Getting started with KXS 12.04 liveDVD
<Crossposted with FalkTX> Cadence>config>driver shows the input and output channels a zero. Intuitively, all these no-s and 0-s look like something disabled, but this is how it is in my Firewire config and inout and output certainly work... Capture Ports: no Playbeack Ports: no Input Channels: 0 Out...

Re: KXStudio needs a P.R. person
I can see some specialized GUI for this, just like the KXStudio-Welcome tool but with Ubuntu->KXStudio upgrade options (auto-add PPAs, user to audio group, install KDE/XFCE desktop and KXStudio packages, install audio|plugins|graphics|video, etc). Such options would be presented in the GUI for the ...

Re: Setting Up A DAW in Ubuntu For Beginners
So, what I am trying to achieve should be ridiculously simple. But ALSA and Jack are not that simple. In fact, I'm seriously considering installing a "normal" distro and I'll probably have better luck with ALSA working than I have been trying to do with Ubuntu Studio. Possibly. My recordi...

Re: KXStudio 12.04 release plans
heh, thanks a bunch falkTX, your level of effort on this simply amazes me. :D I second that! It's like christmas for me this week. KXStudio is taking off, and the RC for Mint 13 is downloading now. Can't wait to see how MATE and Cinammon handle KXStudio! Me too on all counts. I just did an effortle...

Re: KXstudio without branding and KDE
Hello. I'd like to use KXstudio in LXDE. Is it possible to do this without installing any branding packages (Oxygen cursor, etc) and KDE parts (Phonon, etc)? I only want the jack infrastructure thing and all the nice packages. I'm not interested in changing the way my desktop looks or pulling in an...

Re: Minor bugs in Cadence
Cadence is incorrectly displaying that "JACK is stopped", although Jack appears to be running. The problem appears to be only a display problem, and all software appears to operate correctly for me. Me too. At the moment I have some intermittent error with my firewire device. I don't know...

Re: Best desktop for low latency performance?
Yes. My early experiences with Jack (which I needed to use because I wanted to play music via a Firewire interface) were a disaster. In windows, I found out that the machine had very, very high DPC Latency. Linux didn't seem to help it much either. Jack spent its time xrunning, with only occasional ...

Re: Advice wanted re: building an audio-focused Linux box
Given the requirement for a Firewire port, I'm guessing you already have Firewire equipment. Before investing in your Linux box, do some research here and with google to make sure that your equipment will work with your chosen Linux distro. This is important: do not expect Firewire "plug'n'play...

Re: KXStudio 12.04 release plans
Has anyone installed Ubuntu Studio and then KX Studio? I'm trying in a VM, and just hitting dependency hell at every turn. ok.... trying $ sudo apt-get install kxstudio-desktop-xfce And the end of the dependency-hell line was ~$ sudo apt-get install kxstudio-desktop-base Reading package lists... Don...

Easily split FLAC files with .cue files: Flacon
Once upon a time I was more at home with the freedom and power of the command line than with a Windows environment. Because I was using it every day, I had shell-scripting syntax in my head, and could juggle with admin-staple commands like find . Now, it has been so many years since this stuff was m...

Re: kxstudio and linux mint - what???
Whilst KXStudio provides tools and a working environment for the musician/studio, it has wider appeal for all who want to make the jack demon simple and reliable, eg anybody who wants to use a firewire audio device. IIRC, one has to download the FFADO firewire drivers, but anyone who has been workin...

Re: Echo Audiofire 12 compatibility?
Without something like KX, one has to find all the pieces and assemble them.Picander wrote:i don't think it's a matter of not supporting firewire audio.
Giving all the bits is not the same as "supporting"

Re: Echo Audiofire 12 compatibility?
Until I discovered... Maybe AV Linux, Dream Studio, etc, are as good; I haven't tried them. Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio (I was then at 10.04) gave me complete hell with configuration of jack and firewire. Despite hours and days of messing with interupt configuration and stuff that I never really wante...

Re: KXStudio Setup
Don't be so sure!KX is way over my head right now...
I'm not even a musician or studio person, I just happen to have a firewire interface, and KXStudio was the thing that made it just work after months of fighting with Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio.
